They definitely went the right direction with the R1 as opposed to the R6. The R6 may still have to grow on me some.

It's always been a sexy bike, IMO. Apparently the power band in the new R1 is supposed to be more realistic for street riding...

Re: 2007 Yamaha R1

Been out of it for a few months so the yesterday I went to the local Yamaha dealer to check things out. Well they had an '07 there and I gotta say I do not like the exhaust. The rest of the bike is sharp and those 6 piston calipers are tiny.

I'm no engineer but I gotta think that velocity stack setup would cause a lot of turbulence.

colours are kind of boring, IMHO. That burgandy red should belong on a ZX1200, but not an R1. :P

Re: 2007 Yamaha R1

Darn good review in Sport Rider. Their biggest complaint is a non-responsive ECU throttle. Dang, I wish the Japanese would learn how to program ECM chips, better.

I hate abrupt, uneven throttles and that could be a deal killer for me.

I thought it said it just took a fair amount of twisting to get a big throttle response. SOunds like it would make it easier to modulate at low speeds and make it less herky-jerky

Honda may have got it right on the new 600RR by the reviews so far.......

Sport Rider Page 38:

"There's also the merest hint of lag time between the opening of the throttle acceleration response at lower rpm......Even though you may be asking for some quick response with the throttle the 32-bit ECU can only open the throttle plates so quickly without causing a drop in intake velocity....above 5000 rpm, however, the lag disappears."

Here's the part that REALLY struck me:

"We found that when riding aggresively in the canyons or racetrack, if you run into a corner and let the engine drop to 5000-5500 rpm, and then quickly grab a handful of throttle on the exit, there is a distinct lag in response that almost feels as if the engine is bogging down for an instant."

That makes me nervous. I hope they sort it out.

huh... Yeah, I only skimmed the article and didn't see that part. I wonder if the 1098 suffers from that
