TZ Teaser.

After a fairly exhaustive search for a TZ250, I found one this weekend and put a deposit down. The owner, a former AMA 250 racer nd motorcycle shop owner, is getting it ready to deliver in the next week or so, in time for my last scheduled track day.

It is a '97 and has a few extra features, like the carbon fiber pressurized airboxes and Marchesini mag wheels. The last time it ran before this weekend was at the last AMA 250 event at Barber 1 1/2 years ago.

It will come with a second set of Yamaha stock wheels with rotors, crash spares (levers, bars, pegs, fairing stays and some older bodywork) and maintenance spares (a couple clutch packs, jetting, gaskets, o-rings, sprockets, chain, brake pads, top ends, crankshaft bearings, reeds, plugs, cables and best of all, a manual. Those are hard to find.)

The delay is due to the engine that is currently in the bike, which is an ex Rocky Stargel "A" kit TZM motor worth thousands by itself, with the mag carbs, kit transmission, and hand-built pipes for top end (think Daytona) power. He's taking that out to sell separately. I also didn't buy the brand new, custom painted bodywork, preferring to go with the simple, once-crashed stock stuff.

The motor I bought is a fairly fresh one which was built and flowed at the Himmelsbach shop, and used to belong to some guy named Ben Spies.

I rode the bike very briefly. It gives the impression of weighing just slightly more than a Schwinn Varsity bicycle. It currently has a very long first gear which you have to slip forever. ( My trans will have one with a shorter ratio) That didn't prevent the front end from coming right up as soon as the tach passed 11K, though.) This will be a big adjustment, and I'm looking forward to working on the bike and learning how to ride it.

Good find! Looking forward to seeing you blazing around on it at Grattan next year. Keeping the SV, too?

We'll see.. Control riding at Grattan would be a lot less complicated on a bike that won't need pistons every 300 miles...

Congrats CBR. I'm sure you're pleased to see that you still have a few bikes to go before making TornadoB8's "hate" list.

She's pretty. But not quite colorful enough. What color orange/yellow/flourescent everything are you going to paint her?
