New FJR first 100 miles

Bit the bullet and got more blue, well this one is black (only color they come in). Picked the bike up late this afternoon and for all you that live out here it has been raining pretty much non-stop since last Wednesday. Can't complain cause we need the rain/snow. Took the truck down there was going to load her up. By the time we got through the paper work and insurance stuff the yamaha god's came through. The clouds parted and the sun shined. I decided to ride her home. Thanks to all the traffic here the roads were dry except for some spots. The power is smooth and abundant. The ride is real comfortable, you would never know you are sitting on top a 600 lb plus bike.

Looking forward to putting many miles on this bike, LOTS AND LOTS.

Yes congrats to you! A sports-tourer really rounds out the stable specially when you want to do a long multi-day ride. Now the farkles (and debit) begins. Start with a Stebel horn, accessory lights, GPS and Ram mounts, electrical outlets for accessories, anything Gerbing, a mini electrical tire pump and gummy worms with a flat repair kit, a tent (maybe camping cooking gear), bag liners, head and tail-light modulators, aftermarket seat (or sheepskin [sorry SoB] or beaded seat or a Spencer seat [the best]), proper fork springs and an adjustable shock with proper spring rate for your weight, tankbag, intercom/music system, accessory tail rack or trunk, 3M invisible reflective tape for more visibility at night, all new riding gear including an Aerostich Roadcrafter, a solid color helmet, new gloves and boots (because nothing looks dorkier than track gear on that type motorcycle), Throttlemeister or other cruise control, maybe aftermarket windscreen, upgrade to decent tires, and above all...a MCADX.ORG sticker!

I think I covered most of it...DrHall, Conq, help me out here.

I have as much fun with my ST as I do with the 'blade, so I know you will too. Good luck with the money pit!

You didn't get the automatic did you? Please tell me you didn't.

That's a good start.

Congrats on the new scoot - now go eat up those miles!

No automatic here. Though one guy wanted real bad to sell me one. Guess they don't move as fast and now I see why.

YES a cruise control of some type is necessary with this bike. Coming home last night after 100 miles of twisty roads on the freeway was challenging to stay within the speed limit. Especially when the Z06 went by. Wonder went through his noodle when he saw "A BAGGER" in his rear view????

Having a blast on her. Weather has cooperated the last two days but don't think it will today. Which is a good thing cause there are chores to do and have been itchin' to get the WR out in the MUD.

Hear ya on the dorkiness of wearing the track gear with the sport tourer. For now the leathers will have to do. Though for commuting and less spirited riding I have some First Gear stuff I use.

Do need cruise control. First thing on the list. As for all the farkles, I don't know. Never been much of a BLING guy.

OH, took her out on the 100 mile twisties. She handled like a dream. Only had to get on the throttle once, hard. She responded just as I hoped, nice linear power. She was a little sluggish on the downhill twisties but, this is not a sportbike, straight up so that should be expected. Other than that, you would of never known you were on a 600 lb plus bike.

Very happy with this purchase.

Glad you are likin' it!

I hear you on the cruise control! I had several "incidents" with mine. Those bikes want to roll at excessive speeds. I had an Audiovox CC on mine. Other than my little adventure when water worked it's way into the control panel (applying the cc at will ) it functioned great. Though, in retrospect I think I would have been just as satisfied with a throttle locker type of cruise.

The problem is that statement goes against the rule of sport/tour modding: Always go with the most expensive and complicated farkle available. (see Maxib post)
Extra points for stuff no one else has, whether you need it or not!

At least it isn't chrome...

I hear ya on the farkle but... Will probably go with the audiovox. I have your list of farkle printed out and around here somewhere.

Yes, they love to roll.

I don't think they make track bodywork for those so be careful.

And you thought tax, tags and insurance were all that were left...

I forgot to mention Pazzo levers. They are a must. I'm certain I can spend more of your money if I think harder about what you need. Oh,...don't forget a cover. I have a Dowco but many others are good and they really are nice to keep off the morning dew when traveling.

Most hotel doorways are a bit small for this size bike to get into the room,...especially on the second floor. Wheelbase is marginally bigger than an elevator hypotenuse on average for baggers. (Although it has been done...but I'll never tell) I understand that seamus has some experience with that, but he's bigger than both of us put together and therefore can MAKE IT FIT so it's best to avoid the elevator unless he's riding with you.

Camelbacks are your friend. So is Chapstick. Bicycle chamois shorts or Monkey Butt powder will keep you smiling.

Lessee...I'll let you know if I can think of anything else you can max out the card on. Did you order that MCADX.ORG sticker yet?

The 'blade fit in the elevator with no modifications necessary, just had to lift the rear to rotate it in.

I'm starting to think you're not as old as you claim, maxib. You seem to remember an awful lot of details...

Well you can always wheelie it in and just hold it there in the vertical position.

Thought we had an emoticon with a "nervous tic"????
