2007 Tiger 1050 ABS (short write up)
Got a chance to ride one this evening.
It was a black 2007 w/ABS and factory luggage (sidebags only). Tagged at 12,699$ as it sat. First thought: Daymm that thing is tall, why does it have RSVR wheels if it's a tourer, or a suspension from a YZ450 if it isn't for offroad use? Oh and it's tall. Powerplant: A very addictingly soundtracked inline 3 cylinder 1048cc engine. It comes with a very smooth constant pull towards the topend with no suprises tucked away except the necessity for the next shift arriving so soon, oops time to step it off some. Thanks to this smooth DC motor feel, the beast pulled away from a dead stop with composure and was very noneventful getting things moving. If you didn't want to - it wound up fast and reminded me of a very tractable experience I once had on my ZX10, that time. But with this machine it's (465# claimed dry) weight helps out in getting those hooves down to the ground. I completely expected a blip/surge somewhere and nope, nada, nein. Powerplant well matched to the ride IMO, though I could just have been lulled by the triple, really interesting motor. Footing: Much sharper handling then I would expect for a bike this heavy and large. Tack sharp turn in but still felt very planted at all points in the turn. Many times sharp turn in would make for a twitchy ride but not here. Of course I was running on a showroom bike (they literally took the pricetag off and ziptied a plate on) so I didn't tweak the suspension at all - and it felt fairly compliant with my weight. If I didn't think it was new shock/fork break-in stiction occuring I would have called it overspring actually. It soaked up the washboard asphalt I took it over and held it's line well in some crappy blind corners. It still feels like more of a really taut motard here then a dual sport or streetbike. Ridership: Well it's tall, so it falls in easily, almost too easily. The height is weird for me because I wasn't sure if I should stick out my knee, put a boot to the front axle, or buy some hot shoes maybe. Did I mention it's tall? I am flatfooted on it with a 31" inseam though. I also have a few pounds of krispy kremes on me somewhere so your experience may be different. The wind still gets in your face but it's not like your a total windsock. I am 6' even and the blast coming off of the screen hit an apex under my helmet right about where the shield ended due to the rake of the shield. If you're using this for a commuter, cool. But I'd give thought to the factory tall shield if you're going for all that touring they advertise it for. Summary: It' a big barred chin-up pseudo-sportbike. If you want a speed triple but you can't bear with selling your motard to have one, this is your machine. Gripes: -The fairing looks like it does something - but it doesen't really. -Some type of handguard would be cool...I mean it's not an adv. bike we know, but keep hope alive! -major wtf-over! on the gauges. I want a tach on one side, mph on another, and some sub numbering for tripA/B. I do not want the mph buried in a digital number window at the bottom of the LED CEL/status light peppered tachometer. I do not want a 3/4" tall set of digits for the odometer!

Great write up. Everyone who's owned or ridden a Triumph triple recently has great things to say about the linear feel and great sound.

Yeah i was suprised, it's just enough of a difference that it's cool. The pipe (oem) had a little bit of a refined raspiness to it that made it sound neat.

Yeah, that engine really is nice. Wide broad and FLAT torque curve...

Re: 2007 Tiger 1050 ABS (short write up)
It was funny though, ZERO engine braking, I thought it had a slipper or something...very odd. For something with that sort of surge I'd have expected some negative clang for my buck.
nice ride, just not for me.

Nothing so fancy. It just isn't a v-twin. My ST had moderate engine braking so maybe it is gearing?
