Scrambler 900

The thing I love about this bike is the simplicity of the gauges, the sound, and the awesome rubber scallops on the side of the gastank.

Sorry about the messiness of the garage, my KLR is coming out of rehab this week and it's been a little nauseous so I had to put down the training pads again.

Interesting bike. Saw one at the Duc dealer this afternoon(they were very Euro-centric with a fleet of Ducati, Triumph, BMW and even a lone MV Agusta F4 312R ) Is it just me or are those tires somewhat dirt track-ish?

Now that's what I call a "proper" bike Good work fella

I've been considering getting hold of a nice old Trumpet for a while, though probably a 60's version, but it's finding a good one for reasonable money....

It happened Friday morning, what would you like to know?

For 56hp and 451# it moves ok. The engine has a cool torque curve to it and if you can get it in the groove it motors right along. I'm being gentle with it though since I'm not doing the first oil change on it.

The only thing that freaks me out is the damned ground clearance, I keep nicking those pegs and it scares the crap out of me every time.

I'm actually quite fond of the Scrambler. Never had a chance to ride one but love the styling. There is a "pureness" to it.

Nice pick-up.

My BMW dealer is a bit euro-centric too, but Triumph/BMW only, and the F800's were spoken for on Friday

Yes, dirt trackish for sure, they grip ok but don't really tell you when they're leaving (like a soft dirt knobbie on a 2 stroke).
They are dead scary in the rain, and they do grip suprisingly well on dirt, I was impressed.

Well, while it is proper - I can't take much credit for it. I took my R1200GS in for service and picked up the Trumpet. The parts for the GS didn't come in on Friday, so they told me to keep the Trumpet till tomorrow afternoon, assumedly after the parts have been installed on the GS

The 08's are 8k$ . I've gotta say after riding this around for a few days, it has definitely grown on me. Last night we took it out to get ice cream cones and I was mentioning how cool it was to have a bike like this around, but that I'd feel like I was cheating if I bought an 08. In the ~hour or so we were out I had two different conversations about the bike and they were generally nostalgic talking about the bsa or norton they had back when.

Other weird things about it:
  • Everyone waves. (hogs, goldwings, sidehacks...truckers .)
  • Even the street stunna's won't pass you. (I think they're confused, or think I am old and about to die so they don't want to startle me)
  • I swear cars can see me now. (someone actually waved to let me go this morning, and yesterday a dude got out my way on the highway before I even caught up to him)
Gotta say it's the only couple hundred miles of motorcycling that those whom I share the road with have been civil. So there is the lesson, put on a dark helmet and ride around a retro-standard bike with shiny chrome dual pipes and a traditional color scheme and a granite slab seat - and everyone assumes you're an old man or maybe actually a nice person

While I likely won't be buying one soon, it's a pretty cool bike for point to point transport. Oh and give me clean undisturbed air anyday rather than a junky flyscreen

...now I have to convince myself not to get ice cream again, cause it's looking like one of those nights

I agree. Feel free to post some pics of it not in the garage.
And tell the truth, when you're on it you pretend you're Steve McQueen don't you?

I chose a Scrambler today as a loaner and agree with most of what you said, but this particular point was surprising to me. I've caught far more wind on sportbikes than on this completely naked Scrambler.

It's brand new so I'm not scraping pegs, but it goes all right. The tires sound like a 4WD going down the road, and listening to the fluttering in the carbs is pretty cool. The exhaust note is interesting.

I like looking at it better than riding it though, I wouldn't buy one.
