The Gixxer should be gone on Tues. Great bike, but too clean for the track plus with the bike itself costing so much I couldn't afford any extra goodies for it or myself (leathers, boots, etc...) The kid buying it is getting a good deal and will have a like-new bike this spring.
Anyway, I have a bud who's selling his race bike. Cash is very limited, so I'm looking for opinions on this machine. I'm good at evaluating street bikes, but am just starting to learn about track-bike values. It seems set-up and ready to go. If it's a good deal, I'll probably pick it up as a track bike. If not, I'll wait a while and pick something up in the future.
2005 CBR600rr
- Penske rear shock
- Ohlins internals in front forks
- HRC Arrow full exhaust
- PCIII USB w/ ignition controller
- Way too much time on the dyno
- Vortex rear sets
- New body work (although I am not the greatest painter)
- Spare rims (one set of rims has new Honda rotors)
- Misc. spare parts (think I have a new spare radiator, rotors that are probably warped, bunch of stuff)
- Clear title (no salvage/rebuild/etc.)
- Approx 3800 miles
- $4,500
He also offered to throw in some take-offs.
Opinions?

If you think that loud pipes save lives, imagine what learning to really ride that thing could do.
IMO, it is not a bad price for the bike......but I believe if you check on the WERA board you can find a better deal either with more goodies or a lower price. Bikes as you know are not bringing in what they used to so some well prepped bikes are going cheap now. But now is the time to get them.
Amateurs practices until they get it right. A professional practices until they can't get it wrong.

Thanks Hammer. If I don't pick this one up, it will probably be next fall/winter before I start looking again.
One plus is that I trust this guy. He's a dealer and has always hooked me up on Hondas.
I don't really have the cash for one now anyway, so I sent him an email to see if he's willing to move a bit. Doesn't hurt to ask.

4500$ seams to me like a pretty fair price for that bike + spares.... Like Hammer said, if you're willing to wait you might find a similar or even better deal on WERA. If you do go with this one you wont regret it though.
I was asking opinions for track bikes from my local friends, one person who has a lot of time on track looks obviously at the state of the frame, forks and engine. If the engine has a lot of track miles, then I would be a little wary. If the engine has been raced pretty good, then you may have to rebuild the engine in the near future. I'm sure those that wanted to be competitive would have rebuilt the engine after every season, but stilll...... YRMV.
Most of the bikes I was looking at were in the $3500 range but had been on the track a lot. There was only one bike that I considered and it had a recently rebuilt engine by a professional.
Honestly, an '05 600rr for $4500 seems a smidge low. I mean it has low miles (are any of them street miles or are they only track miles), good suspension, tires and a few spares. Seems to me that would be on the boarder line of to good to be true.
Just my opinion from what little research I've done lately when I was in the same boat.

Of course you guys know I was just being sarcastic.
Too late! You already put it in writing. You should just ship the bike to me so I can ride it, thereby keeping it from being crashed by its jinxed owner.
2002 945RR...She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid.

you realize now that even if he did send it to you, you jinxed yourself also.

No need to send it anywhere and waste $ on shipping. Just let me know when/where your next trackday is and I'll come crash it for you and get it over with. It's the least I can do for a fellow .org member.
DUX,
No need to worry about being the slowest. I will be in the same boat. I don't see being able to buy a track bike any time soon so I will be riding my VFR also and definitely don't want to crash it.
Our Grattan event isn't about going fast (well maybe it is for some people), it is all about having a great time and being able to drive yourself home when it's over.

Engineers say "Not so fast."

That's what trackdays are always about for me. Improving skills, hanging with cool folks, and going home with me and the bike in the same condition as when we arrived.

Ever hear of anyone dropping their brand new helmet on the ground to scratch it before they put it on their head? That superstitious stuff... I'm not super sticious at all. I can prove it by the writing on my helmet. Only cause and effect. I hope I don't crash, but eventually I may. If I do it will be because I screwed up.
