Favorite Corners

I was wondering what everyone's opinion was on track corners across the country. Here's the short list of my favorite turns out of the few tracks I've visited. In no particular order

Turn #1 @ NJMP Lightning. high speed, uphill, blind right-hander.

Turn #3 @ Grattan. Blind, downhill left-hander leading into a fast right-hander (I sucked at it but it was still fun)

Turn #6(?) @ Beaverun blind, downhill right-hander

Turns #4-5-6 @ VIR Patriot, uphill corkscrew

Turn #6 @ VIR North fast, uphill, blind(?) right hander

There are only 2 turns I dont like at Calbogie.

My favorites are the series of corners just after the hump at Grattan (turns 5/6/7, I think). You can take them way faster than most people think, and I can often make up a bit of time on the folks who left me behind in turns 1, 2, and 3.

Grattan - my favorite stretch of the track is right after the bowl.

Nelson's Ledges - The Kink. Something about that 2 foot* drop right in the middle of it just made it...exciting

JenningsGP - Not enough laps to have a favorite but the whole track is pretty fun. Turn 8(?) has a bunch of grooves in it from footpegs that took chunks out of the pavement so that's probably my least favorite.

*It's really not that big but sure seems like it at 100mph.

5 at Barber is my all time favorite but I did hit #1 perfect once..... scary but WOW! Usually I lose a lot of time there.

T7 at Road Atlanta. Get it right and you'll get the drive from hell down the back straight. Get it wrong and it's ground/sky/ground/sky/ground/ground.

T7 at Road Atlanta, it's where I first got my knee down consistently!

Don't know about favorite, but the corkscrew at Laguna will get your attention. On that note, Turns 2 and 5 there are pretty epic.

Turn 5 at Grattan - You can carry more speed than most people realize.

Turn 1 at Mid-Ohio - Another very fast turn, and if taken well, you can drive like hell for the kink.

You must really like that place.. I seem to remember watching you try to adorn your leathers in the nearby gravel.

#3 at Grattan as well as the esses.

Nelson sucks. That track it boring. Don't go there. I mean there's a reason they're tearing it up. If I had to pick a fav, it'd be the carousel. You're cranked over on the right hand side for a long, fast time; double-apex, big drop from the track to the grass on the outside, little runoff. Good times.

turn #5 for me is usually decent or game on. When I was at Ed Bargy all the instructors I talked to had advice except on 5 where on guy said he had a hard time following When I am clicking I can brake all the way in hit the apex and slide it out (like some can likely do all the time)

THAT day it was cold tires and bad advice from passenger sheep well and seeing Seamus and getting overly interested in passing him

3 and 4 at Grattan are a lot of fun but I would always suck ass in the esses... I need to go back there.

Turn 4 and 5 at Race City are great passing spots for me.

At Miller I really enjoy turns 1 2 and 3 on the west track... fast, flowing sweepers. Lotsa fun. I also enjoy the wind-up and release. Huge lean angles there.

Haven't been to any other tracks.

Having watched a lot of motorsports before I ever got on a track, there are some corners that are like hallowed ground - When I was at Road America on the Carousel, I couldn't get over the fact that I was at Road America on the Carousel! Road Atlanta had already been de-nutted of its Gravity Cavity, but there were still a lot of great turns - the whole uphill section from 1 through 6 flows beautifully, and 12 isn't a place where you're likely to daydream.

I hope to get to the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca someday. I suppose Monza is too much to hope for.. curva de lesmos, baby - WFO!

At Grattan I like the whole section from after the bus stop up the hill onto the straight. The esses are also fun.

At NHMS I pretty much hate the bowl the least.

That would be a trackday to remember, wouldn't it? But, as you say, probably out of reach. Along with Brands Hatch.....

Putnam Park, T1 and 2 is fast and smooth and really run together. Also 9 and 10 are great turns except for the armco on the outside.

Blackhawk, T6 is a double apex turn with a short straight after it.

It just doesnt do anything for me... mainly because I suck at it. But I enjoy plenty of other turns that I have not perfected.

I try to think of it as just a way to get to the next 3 turns(wicked, wilsons and the kink) .... whats your top speed through the kink?

Seeing as you were in front of me and I watched your "I'm a turtle" demo, you must have been thinking about the next session. You should really concentrate on the task at hand.

I was only half joking with my earlier post. I had some trouble with focus with that corner too, but then realized that it was because I kept looking over at the musuem instead of riding the track...

It's an interesting piece of architecture, so the eye naturally goes to it. I think that is the nature of Barber in general...there are so many things of interest, that they bring out the "tourist" in me. The steely-eyed racer types are probably immune though...

I'll second that turn 8 at JenningsGP as my least favorite as one of those many peg marks is mine.

I'll take turn 4,5,6 combo at JenningsGP as my favorite.
