Barber in the Fall?

OK so in a past year a few of my northern friends got one last day in by coming south. It was a lot of fun having a decent sized group riding and pitting together. Now the bad news the last event of the year seems to fill quick. So I am wondering if anyone has an interest in riding the (near) last event of either STT or the Sheephaters™(aka NESBA) I am up for either group. Though this is the highest chance of excellent weather the time that the frozen tundra has been frozen is not that long.

The available days and a sheeppinion™
October 11th with NESBA
sunrise/set 6:48 AM 6:17 PM
average high/low 77°F 49°F
record high/low 85°F (1997) 32°F (2000)
average rain is 3.44"
This early in October you have the highest chance of two fantastic days and dry. Sunset is not to early so the last session it is least likely to come into play on the back straight (right into the sunset in the fall)

ACTUAL: 80 High 66 Low

October 25th with STT
sunrise/set 6:59 AM 6:01 PM
average high/low 72°F 44°F
record high/low 85°F (2000) 28°F (1999)
average rain is 3.44"
This late in October you still have a high chance of two fantastic days and dry but rain chance increases. Sunset is getting closer to the last session still not a huge factor on the back straight but may affect some depending on group. The chance of a cool or rainy day is significantly higher for this weekend though two in a row is not that likely.

November 8th with NESBA
sunrise/set 6:12 AM 4:48 PM
average high/low 67°F 40°F
record high/low 83°F (1986) 26°F (1992)
average rain is 4.88"
This is the one that pushes the envelope. Usually it is either two days that will have you raving until spring or two cool days. Rain is more likely and the last session is likely a no go especially for Novice group (at a minimum) due to the sunset. Though it is the dodgiest by southern standards it is already freezing in the north so a cold day for us will be balmy for y'all

All sheeppinions™ are non-binding as I have zero influence on weather.

So anyone with a preference that thinks they have a remote chance of making it down vote for a weekend. If there is interest we can target a day before the end of August and register with the appropriate org. Remember these tend to fill fast and by September slots get REAL hard to come by.

Poll is public and if you enter everyone will see your name though due to the higher number that enter vs show your razzing will not be whale sized

Multiple selection is on so that if someone can make either of multiple weekends we can pick the highest turnout

If you think 40 (your record low) is cold then you really are a pansy.

That said, I had a sweater on in the morning when I went to Calabogie last August and the locals were practically running around in thongs and slippers.

Are there any consecutive dates with any groups, including schools? Even 1-2 days apart? I'd hate to make that long trip for just one day of riding.

All three are weekends I just posted day one sorry. The October 11-12 is preceded on the 9-10 by the Jamie James School though I have zero knowledge of the school (he could let me attend free and write a review )

Unfortunately, I missed last Veteran's Day weekend Barber ride but the last two years were plenty warm. Mid 70s during the day and we drank enough margaritas at night to make the 40 degree temps feel nice and toasty.

It did rain the morning of day one in '06 but all that did was open the track up to practice riding in the rain. It was warm enough to dry the track within a couple hours and not feel cold at all.

I didnt check the poll first.

I think I will try to shoot for the latest possible... this way I am not Jonesin' for track time by mid Fed.

I have some electric gear you can borrow if the temps dip below 70.

In your thread you list October dates, in the Poll, you specify September. Which is it?

This *could* be possible. Oct 11-12 is definitely out but the other two are a maybe.

Maybe, just maybe....

I'm attracted to the November date, simply because it's likely to be cold and dreary here.

How many hours from South Lyon to Barber, do you think? Single day's drive?

One LONG day Bobcat says 12.5 hours and 763 miles from the track in SL I am at the 10.5ish mark.

Probably sign up for the NESBA soon (Nov) as the fill up has started. STT September (not in the list) has Novice full on one day already.

Didn't look like a ton of interest. One year a bunch of folks showed (fun time) but so far other than JH41 and Z it is us locals. Think the drive and gas scared the yanks

EDIT: the seamii might be persuaded to swap but I think they prefer NESBA. As we get closer we might be able to recruit DoubleDan but it is likely harder for him as they fill fast and he has more scheduling challenge.

Of the October dates, the Nesba weekend 11/12 is more appealing because I have credits with them ( gift cert) I haven't been able to use.

Space in Intermediate is still currently available.

My route goes right through Columbus, IN.

Anybody notice that trackdays are showing a drop in attendance this year?

I have noticed a drop but historically BOTH the last NESBA and STT sell out early. Thus I posted this early. The first ones of the year are similar (STT was full a couple of weeks after signup opened)

I figured if we could get any sort of contingent going that early signup was important as even at 10 the numbers start adding up. Many would be riding "I" and with a typical groupsize of 45 that would make us 1/5 or more

According to a local WERA racer, the races are showing a drop too.

I'm in like Flynn for whatever dates are chosen.

STT is partially full already. I am signing up for BOTH Sheephater (aka NESBA) events tonight. It would be good to see others
