Nelson's Ledges getting a face lift

Whoa! I'm glad to see this, that place is in need of some major renovation. Someone's count is way off though, there's definitely more than 7 turns...unless the potholes swallowed a few since the last time I was out there.

HD, you got any insider info?

Quote:
The Nelson Ledges Road Course in Warren, Ohio is set to change ownership, and the new owners plan major revisions to the existing seven-turn, 2.0 mile road course and the facilities on site.

Scott Lane, President and General Manager of the facility, said in a telephone interview with Roadracing World today that the sale is in its final stages.

"There's a 99 percent chance that it will be sold, pending some final environmental reviews and some last details," Lane said. "We expect that the sale will be finalized within a month."

Lane declined to identify the buyer at this time, but when asked what changes the new owners intended for the track, Lane said simply that the changes would be:

"Major. Major. Everything will be new. New track, new surface, new buildings, new facilities, everything. It will be part country club, part race course."

Nelson Ledges has been a regular stop for WERA National and Regional races, as well as for the Fasttrax local motorcycle road racing organization.

However, its bumpy surface, high-speed layout and lack of run-off room at some of its more daunting corners have been the source of controversy, and in rainy conditions, some riders have refused to race, citing safety concerns.

Nope sorry. The news is good and bad to me. Personally, if you're slow like me, the danger isn't worse that Putnam's last turn. Much less in fact. But, it will be nice to have a new track in my back yard. Hopefully, Fasttrax will continue to be able to afford it.

That was the second thing that popped into my head. How much is the cost of a track day/race entry going to go up? Will it be like Mid-Ohio/VIR/Barber/etc? One can only assume so, investors don't put millions of dollars into a track to not make their money back.

On the up-side, maybe they can make it good enough to bring some national events in.

Or maybe the track revamp will attract more people to Fasttrax and they won't have to adjust prices. It really is a nice little club. There's some property for sale right near the track. Wonder what it's going for right now?

That'd be nice. Todd seems to be getting the hang of things with the organization. How's your season going so far?

It's not. I'm taking the year off it seems. Too many trips to take and too many taxes to pay.

This is really good news. (Not that you're not racing, Dan. Understand your position though. Been there.) One of the guys I work with is working with me to find a track bike that we can split to kinda cut our teeth on. Maybe do some endurance races on. And now that is sounds like the closest track to my front door is going to me better and safer, maybe it's about time I get my license.

Well that track sale fell through. Good and bad really. I like being a small fish in a small pond and I was afraid the influx of cash would kill Fasttrax.

I got to do a race on Sunday and they announced it at the riders meeting.

Any other details? I was digging around for any new info on this the other night but couldn't find anything. The Localriders/WERA sites are so poorly laid out that it's nearly impossible to find anything.

They didn't say anything other than "money issue". The general consensus is that it probably has something to do w/ the tires. Same old story.

Yeah, there's a lot of tires there. You'd think a paving company would be all over those to be ground up and used in asphalt. They could certainly use some of them for a repave. Are they continuing to move the tire walls back or has that been put on hold also?

They created a huge draining ditch the goes from behind turn 1 all the way back behind the carousel. Thus, they could move the wall back in T1-T3. Carousel is next.
