I now know what a highside feels like ADDED PICS

doesn't really hurt that much. probably have a good bruise on my hip in the morning but it didn't even start to hurt until after the 2 hour drive home.

so it was raining/drizzling all day during my track day. I figured it should be good practice. we were taking it really really slow. second session me and this guy on a KTM supermoto were going around. we came out of the last turn entering the straight and I must have given it too much gas. The rear stepped out like a foot to the right then kicked left and threw me off. While in the air all I could think was how damaged the bike was gonna be. Frame slider is ground real good but I have another one, wore a small hole in the track plastic right over the hole I fixed, bent the rear set a touch and the bolt holding the peg on a little more, some scratches on the exhaust, tank, windscreen, bar end and brake lever but overall plenty rideable.

worst part, $650 helmet would have only had a year of use come Grattan. only other gear problem is some of the plastic pieces on my gloves were ground down a little and there's a few tiny marks on my boot but mostly on the toe sliders.

I'll take some pics of the bike tomorrow.

Brett, check out a scorpion for a replacement helmet. I got a very decent exo700 for about 150 bucks, and it's very well made.

for sure. knocked the wind out of me so I just laid there for a minute turned to see if anyone was coming then got up and lifted the bike up while corner worked asked me my name and where I was. Instructor came over and asked if I was ok to push the bike back to the pits. no problem I was near the beginning the pit wall so it wasn't far.

that was my first thought for a new helmet. I tried one on last year and if I remember correctly it fit pretty well.

Bummer, but it sounds like a pretty "good" highside.

As we say in the aviation world, "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. One you can fly the plane again is a great landing."

Great landing and glad you're alright.

Great landing and glad you're alright.
haha when it happened I thought of the pilot from Duck Tales who never actually landed any aircraft. he just crashed them every time and said it was good landing when you could walk away.

yeah probably. sucks that I have to get up early but its only cause I'm taking a guy from work to get his class A license. then I can go home nap and go to actual work. maybe if I'm really sore I can get my boss to give me a helper.

yeah 130+hp, just over 500lbs of combined bike/rider weight and water on a nascar oval isn't a good combo.

nope the photog wasn't at that corner. he did get a good series of a guy that went down towards the end of the day.

I don't suppose your a Shoei XL are ya? If so you could borrow my (3 rides on it if that, so it's actually new) x11 if yer short on cash.

Glad to hear you made it out of there ok relatively speaking. Good news is you really couldn't have asked for a better place and speed to highside it - good thinking .

(doesn't really hurt that much.) Jorge Lorenzo would disagree.....

As a 125 racer, with the exception of two or three, highsides are about the only crashes I've had with it. A proper highside gives a solid moment to contemplate which body part is going to contact first, and leaves you wondering where you're at / what your name is for about 15 -30 seconds.....

Bike? What bike? How did I get here?..... hehehehee!! Oh yeah, a proper highside tweaks the wheel out or true and twists the swingarm.

Got a hertz donut eh? Sorry to hear, but glad you're able to write about it

In racing, it's not "any landing you can walk away from", it's "any race you can drive yourself home from" . . . Walking may or may not be required.
