Ed Bargy School May 2nd

Figured I would put a place holder for Seamus to brag how fast he got (whipped by a sheep)

looks like the mock race may get soggy though.

I still need to wire the RC a bit more and pack tonight so racing is looking more like a maybe all the time. Hopefully the anthrax continues to subside as I hurt all day today

I need to go review my emails on what I signed up for and be sure I have my old certificate when I go. Probably bring one of my Baa-rber books even though I won't be taking track session notes. But that will give me maps to discuss things on...

Let the bench racing and lies commence

j/k Seamus see you and D there

I got well down into the 40's Not sure what my pace was during the day as I never picked up a beacon and only had the cam on during the mock race.

Great day for all three of us and the weather held. I think everyone made a lot of progress.

During the mock race I did get a front row seat to this though (a LOT closer than it appears in the cam)

Strangely there was a few. In the first session (yes the follow the leader at a moderate pace) there was THREE crashes, rumor is one was a licensed racer

Last time at Bargy no one crashed and that was in a 30º morning where tires were like stone.

Minus almost running over one guy's head during his lowside right in front of me. My day went very well. Even got my corner speed and technique down enough to finally need to do some of this:

Sweet. I'm going to be coming to Grattan with a brand new fresh set of sliders. I'm afraid they'll look that way when I go home

Before you get into that fixation consider I never touched a knee all day (I don't think) and yet ran about 3-4th fastest of the group. I also saw an instructor dragging a knee on the sighting laps

Also for anyone wondering about the poor guy that high sided: When I went by he was still sliding down the left center of the track, when I came back around he was being tended by the ambulance crew on his back but was all the way to the braking pad against the wall. I talked to EB and he indicated the fellow got a ride in the ambulance to the pits and was walking around in the pits. So while I am sure he is still sore they normally will not let you out of the ambulance at Barber unless the paramedics are going to release you (the 'choice' of a ride is not yours)

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant that I was pretty sure my new sliders would still look new when I left meaning that I probably wouldn't be dragging any knees. I'm sure that is a LONG way down the road for me. I consider myself a (modestly) proficient street rider at best. I have very minimal track experience. If it wasn't for abtech assuring me that I would get some good instruction at Grattan I would probably just be coming to watch.

I've done 4 tracks days and 1 race school. I think I've touched my pucks down 4 maybe 5 times. and they look much less scuffed than Seamus's. it doesn't really matter if you get them down. I'm sure you'll have fun at Grattan.

just don't listen to Jetbdude when he says "just grab a little brake, downshift a couple times and throw it in" that got me mowing the grass down the hill at a pretty high rate of speed.

Trust me, bro, there will be MANY people there willing to give you great instruction, you will make great progress.

Both of my suits still have the original sliders on them. I don't put my knees out very far and use them mostly as a feeler. When I do touch down I don't put much pressure on them. I've seen guys WAY off the bike just to get a knee down and can't imagine it's very comfortable or stable. But there are many riding styles. Just focus on riding smooth.

yeah what they said. My knee contact was merely a function of getting faster. My body position didn't change but my speeds, and resulting lean, did.

First time my knee touched down Friday scared the crap out of me because the last time I touched a knee, it was the beginning of a lowside. I actually slowed and straightened the bike up instinctively thinking it was happening again. In 3 years of track riding, Friday was my first time.

If you come Barber is pretty aggressive on that (STT it is the rule I believe). Part of this is somebody did go and refused treatment, then died a day later. Guess what the press reported? None of us need that. Further if the paramedic thinks you should go, you should. You are making decisions based on adrenaline and pandemonium and they are doing so based on training.

Force maybe not but they will be VERY aggressive and I agree. Ask about the stories of people that thought they should not go. I bet even with your experience you might be surprised.
