What does dragging a knee feel like?

OK sounds goofy (and likely is) but I almost feel like I am dragging my leathers rather than my knee yet the puck is ground a bit. Is that the feel or am I hitting both

Are your leathers scuffed?

Different pucks will have different densities and will feel different as well. But as NH said check your leathers to see if your leathers are scraped and if not.......Congrats on knee down status

There are leather pucks (made by A&G) which drag very smoothly, but I doubt you have those. Normal pucks make a pretty good scraping sound, that you will both hear and feel. Are your leathers baggy, where there might be bunched up leather material dragging? If so, then there should be scrapes in the leather material near the pucks.

Joe Rocket and yes but then I moved the puck so it is hard to say now I got a definite bevel so I am sure I drag the puck some. There was a Mom-o-sheep repair this winter that is still there so maybe I just need to rotate the puck around the patch as much as I can...

EDIT as to sound I run with ear plugs on an RC soooo

Nope yours

Unlike many that fixate on it, I really could care less on dragging a knee. Been touching down here and there on the flat track side for a while (Barber and Miller). I just wanted to know if I needed to adjust the pucks further as I suspect or if that was the normal feel.

Dragging knee without a puck is NOT a good feeling. It hurts and drags A LOT, your leg want to stay behind. I lost a puck at Grattan (Bwhip was lucky not to get it in the face ) and dragged knee after I lost it. Believe me, you'd know if you where not dragging the puck.

Leathers would certainly show if they were being dragged and not puck. Look at your photos; compare with where you feel the touch down; and look at the wear on the puck. That will tell you if your puck is in the best possible position for your personal style of lean.

I wear custom fitted ear plugs and can still hear it just fine; however it probably has a lot to do with the sound coupled with the feel it causes because of the vibration/grind that resonates through your body.

I wear tape on my leathers as I have touched the "knee" down a couple of times and would really like this suit to stay in one peice for as long as possible.

From my experiances, leather has much less resitance and drags "softer" than a traditional puck. I am yet to drag a leather slider though, just my suit...

I have Leather A&G sliders and love them, they really do wear well, just enough drag to let you know whats up down there.

The Nylon sliders my suit came with scared the absolute shiet out of me the first time I hit them on the asphalt and I pulled my knee back up thinking I hit a rock or something - that was the end of those.

While Sheep is digging out a camera to take a pic, I'll describe it to you.

About 4" below his left knee puck, there's a scuffed spot a little larger than a fitty cent piece on the outside portion of his leathers (right around the thickest part of the calf).

After thinking about it for a little while, I suspect it might be heretofore unnoticed rash from one of his track wrasslin' matches. I noticed some rash on the left shoulder of mine this weekend that I'd somehow forgotten was there and spent a few minutes trying to figure out where the heck it came from.

I have some spots on my leathers where they touched down between the boot and slider. Never noticed it happening.

Depending on how you lean off, your contact point can be different. I know I have to push my pucks all the way to one side (no personal comments please ) to keep the leather off the ground. A team mate wearing the same model of leathers had his pucks in a different place. Look for any leather wear and adjust accordingly.

Congrats on the knee down stuff. We're now expecting big things from you at Grattan

nope still an old fat sheep (less wooly by a bit though). I hoping to be at 100% this year and do better than the miserable showing I did last year (while repeating the no crash part )

Maybe if sheepup '08 success continues...

Pics tonight but from the comments I think I am hitting both a bit. Seamus had be thinking about his battle of tarsnakes vs sheep but I crashed that side with no marks on my boot (I think)... Hmm pictures tonight while I process Seamus before/after alcohol video

same thing happened to me at Grattan last year. not sure if it was the puck or peg feeler that scared the shite out of me, could have been both cause it was simultaneous. the few times I've done it since then it hasn't been scary because I know what it is.

Congrats sheep, its about time I did it on day 2 of my first track experience.

Congrats obviously you did not read the thread. Oh and take your peg feelers off before the next track day I could care less on dragging, I do care about tearing up my leathers. After that faster laps is faster laps. Wait until next year when DEPO rips by you without even getting of the seat Oh and this was far from the first time

That's OK, no need to drag knees to go fast. I had a team mate who kicked my butt and never dragged a knee, and we had some "rolling orange cones" that got their knee down on every corner and could probably do it on the straight if they tried. Do what works.

But it is about time

I get my knee down everywhere but I am a rolling pylon.

The worst sound I think I've ever heard is the ceramic toe sliders on my Sidis dragging. I bet it makes dogs freak out from 10 miles away.

I had some A&G leather sliders and they definitely felt different than plastic ones. I thought they were a little "grabbier" and actually liked the plastic better. It depends on the track too though. I've felt a little difference depending on the surface of the track.

A&G has several compounds. Their Super Endurance is pretty hard (as you'd guess) and slides real nice.

I loved my plastic Dainese sliders, but wore them out in two days.
