Southern track extravagana!

For those considering a trip down. In May you can hit Road Atlanta and Barber all in one trip. SportbikeTrackTime has a Friday/Saturday including dinner in the museum on May 9-10 and you can then go over north of Atlanta (for people that like cities you can tour Atlanta on Sunday) and ride Road Atlanta on Monday and Tuesday (May 12-13) with a private group. For info see STT site on the Barber time. If interested PM me for info on the RA time. Cost is 395 for both days and there will be tire and probably suspension support there. I have not signed up yet but will be at RA for sure and am leaning toward a 4 day track week

FWIW in early May it should be nice and warm but not Yankee baking warm yet

Bump just signed up for the two days at Road Atlanta soon to add the two at Barber For anyone wanting to ride the south this is an opportunity you will not likely see again, 4 days of riding in 5 days at the premier tracks of the deep south (both AMA venues). You may even be among the first to ride the changed layout of Road Atlanta (not sure when the completion date is). Barber is a very technical track with FABULOUS facilities including one of the world's premier motorcycle museums. Not fast but the number of passing opportunities and lines will have you amazed. Dinner is part of the weekend in the museum Friday night. Road Atlanta is easier on your hide (Barber is a workout) and FAST. Facilities are decent with Atlanta about 45 minutes away if you want the city afterward.

As of last word STT will have the normal STT items at Barber. With suspension support and Bridgestone tire service at the Road Atlanta portion.

The first time that I ever got to see an actual race track it was Road Atlanta. I convinced my roommate to visit one day with me. We went out and watched some cars race. Mostly miatas and corvettes. I've always wanted to have the chance to ride it myself. Someday.

Road Atlanta is definitely a fun track, and probably lots more since resurfacing. I'd love to ride that track again. I can also tell you that the cornerworkers and medical support staff are also fantastic, slick! The jello at the regional medical center is the same worldwide...don't know if that's good or bad, but I don't usually pick up jello when I go out to eat!

(That's me about to touch down at RA in my avatar)

As I look out my window to find another inch of show has fallen overnight, and will continue throughout the day, I think I'll look into sheep's plan of picking up Barber and RA the same week. I gotta check the schedule for work.

(haven't pulled the trigger on your recommendations yet)

I'm interested for sure, that could be one of the "big" trips this year.

Car pool down would save 1/2 of the gas needed and I may as well get some miles on that new trailer.

We will have to talk and I will have to look closer at my track day and work schedules

If y'all are going to do it let me know soon and I will get on the wait list for an Intermediate slot at Barber. If not since I drug a hoof to long and intermediate is full I am only going to Road Atlanta.

How much are the days worth? 395 for both days at both events?

what's the weather like at that time of year? is it 80 yet?

any Camping at the tracks? if I can make it I would be planning on sleeping in the trailer hoepfully that would be alright.

Any noise restrictions on bikes? I had some issues with the 1KRR last year at tremblant and calabogie, way to close for my own good to db limits.

Barber is more (check sportbiketracktime.com) and Intermediate is full. You can camp in the pits for a fee not 100% sure what it is. There is also a camp area. The facilities are clean there is showers.

Daily Averages for Leeds, AL - weather.com average hi is 80º reality is 75-90. The R word is always possible in the south when it warms. Usually even in the event of R you get 1/2 of dry.

I will check into camping at Road Atlanta. Weather is similar at RA.

Not sure on showers and such at RA as I stay in the hotel. Saturday night you are welcome to slum at shay sheep. 2 hours north and 4ish from Atlanta.

I think officially both tracks have noise restrictions and have never seen nor heard of it getting enforced (the RC is not real quiet )

Talked to my boss about this, not good, I have off site training that ends on the 9th that shy of death I cannot miss... dammit... I REALLY want to do barber.

Is there anything on the week of the indy GP? I am off the whole week for that, it would be just as easy to trailer things down and then go from there. I was planning on riding to it, but this may work out as well.

Also since Baa-rber with STT is full for Intermediate (last I checked) there is also Saturday and Sunday with Elite Sportbikes at TGP. Not as fancy as Barber, but fun and inexpensive. I have not run with Elite yet but have met the lead and he is a good guy that I believe will run a tight ship.

BUMP!

I am pretty sure STT at Barber Friday and Saturday is full.

Road Atlanta May 12-13 (Mon-Tues) is still open. Running the old configuration is the word, may not get many more chances and they fubarred T12. Last word was Novice run by Ed Bargy (not his school but still a great opportunity), tire support is Bridgestone by Stickboy and suspension by Thermosman. I imagine all were enticed by riding time promises also but still a premier group.

So .... Seamus surely you can get the 48 hour plague

I'm TDY that week unfortunately. Hoping the "budget crunch" keeps me from having to go but I doubt it.

Final bump before I post up telling you how fast I was and how much fun happened I am pretty sure we are running the old configuration and Bridgestone tire support with Thermosman suspension there.

I lied! One more detail. I believe attendance is below what is desired so this could be a chance to do RA with small groups I am even going to post a bit over on Fireblades as I don't want the promoter to lose his skin on this.
