New 2007 Tundra

The big new Tundra was unveiled today at the NAIAS in Detriot. Specs and photos are all widely available now. Here's a few interesting ones:

optional 5.7L i-Force V8 with 381hp and 401 ft-lbs
towing capacity up to 10500lbs

Maybe it needs to grow on me. Sorta reminds me of a mini-van.

Re: New 2007 Tundra

Looks all right. Very "Dodge-ish" front end.

381 HP? That's pretty dang decent, wonder how dismal the milage will be?

I agree, it does not look like a "Work" Truck.

Edmunds reported 14.3 MPG is what they observed.

Really not that bad considering the size and power. And they only recommend regular fuel for it.

The new 5.7 motor is a totally different architecture than the 4.7. It's based on the 4.6 V8 in the Lexus LS460, only stroked out and beefed up. It's all-aluminum.

10,500 towing That's alot for a Toy truck!

<banging head> why didn't they do this four years ago? my '02 can only haul 7,200. I've got too much invested in 5th wheel upgrades and a supercharger kit to buy a new one now.

Re: New 2007 Tundra

If you really care that much about towing high weights, you should not be looking at a Toyo.

Go look at a diesel.

Which should mean fairly low compression.

Wonder if TRD will release a blower for it to make it truly insane?

I have to agree. As good as the 10000+ LB capacity looks for the advertising copy, I still wouldn't hook up a trailer that big to anything but a diesel HD.

10.2:1

A blower would make it ridiculous. But ridiculous is fun. Edmunds measured 321 whp on a chassis dyno, so the rating of 381 could be even a bit conservative. Assuming 20% parasitic power loss: 321 / 0.8 = 401

But what about a 747? Would you hook it up to a stripped 747 with fake engines and nacelles that was stripped inside and used as a movie prop?
That could make for some good pseudo-advertising copy.

Re: New 2007 Tundra

What torques me, it that they have dually technology, but aren't applying it anymore (remember the motorhomes?). This truck is asking for a dually.

It's just a half ton truck, available with a big engine. Looks real nice for what it is, a mall troller, but this is not a HD type truck, meant for serious work.

But it does have the "T" badge on it I guess...

Be patient... There should be an HD line coming in a couple years.

Re: New 2007 Tundra

My point is that they had one-ton technology for the motorhome series, and they were the old, small pick-ups. Those things were built like bricks! I have never figured out why they haven't put that equipment in the Tundra series. Someone "upstairs" is not getting the message.

I guess I've gotten used to upgrading all my equipment over the years. Usually the first thing I do is a spring/shock upgrade, airbags, reach for the HD anti-sway bars and change out the tires..

A little... the coach weighs 6800, the truck can do 7200.
I make sure I tow with my holding tanks empty.

When I was still Managing a toyota dealership, Toyota Corporate brought in a ford f-whatever dually in. They mentioned that we needed to have a bay capable of handling a vehicle of this size and specs soon. They also mentioned a deisel is definately in the works.
