Trailer Extras

Ok, I am in the process of buying a trailer and, unless I buy a trailer that is already set for hauling bikes, I will need to invest on accessories and things to have the trailer ready to haul bike/bikes

Can you please list brands, comment, and advise on things I should start looking for.

Thanks

V~

Re: Trailer Extras

Spare tire (they don't all come with one)
E-track system with tie down rings
We have a diamond plate box mounted on the tongue for the gas containers so they don't have to be in the trailer.

This is pretty damn great Strapless Transport Stands

If you want a regular wheel chocks, tiedowns and everything else you need I just took everything off my trailer and could cut you a deal.

Re: Trailer Extras

You'd be able to fit 4 bikes in a smaller trailer with 4 of those bad boys!

Re: Trailer Extras

If you are interested in a new trailer, get with me. I got a decent deal at Detro trailer sales, they are located north of Putnam. From What I have seen, you will pay new price for an old trailer. That is why I went with a new one.

Re: Trailer Extras

I just got a THULE 6 1/2 x 14 for Christmas (that's a bow, not a cross on the door .)

It came from a dealer in Northeast Pa and I'm planning on towing three large bikes at a time. I'm sure that it could handle four sport-bikes no problem.

It's a V-nose with a slanted roof in the front and like the open trailer that I have for sale, it's all aluminum. It pulls very well .

Nothing done on the inside yet, but I'm planning on E-track with removable chocks. We're looking into modifying some of the chocks that hold the bike upright with no tie downs for the e-track. I still plan on using the ties, but I want the bike to stand by itself for ease of loading and securing them by myself.

I'm also considering some no-skid flooring from these guys if I can get them to sell me a small enough sheet: Specialty Flooring by Armstrong

Good luck! Post any ideas that you come up with.

Put some studs up through the floor and mount a couple of Baxley chocks in there. Then you can use em in the pits, too.

I rather have a new trailer so I am all up to check this deal you got... Does this mean I'll have to be super nice to you all year?

You think a 6X14 (I like you trailer DUX) is good for 4 bikes? I've put 3 bikes in a 6X12 so...

So, E-tracks for sure.
At least 2 removable chocks (baxley?)

What are those stripes you can use on the bike that hooks up from the chocks and not the handle bars?

Re: Trailer Extras

I use soft ties and Ancra tie downs (the non-ratcheting type). I tie down with just two straps. If feasible (not possible on all bikes due to bodywork), place one strap on each side, somewhere in the middle of the bike, about rearset level, behind the rearsets. Put the front wheel in a chock (absolutely need a chock), hook straps at 45 degree angle with straps going towards the chock. Viola! This compresses both front and rear without pulling excessively on the forks. On my 929, the soft tie goes around the subframe, where it's attached above and behind the rearset area. Couldn't do this on the 954, as the subframe is covered in plastic. Works great on the Ducati's trellis frame.

If I can't do this, I put softties around the triples and forks, the ones just above the front fender, with the tie down points by the front of the front tire. Then I also put softties somewhere on the rear section, with enough tension so the back doesn't jump around. I don't like canyon dancers, either, they've ruined many a grip!

I also have vertical etrack in the front, with shelves attached, with stuff bungeed down that stays in the trailer. Stuff like the chairs, canopy, tools, etc.

If you get a dual axle trailer, get something called a "jiffy jack". Jiffy Jack;* HitchesOnline.com If you get a flat, you pull the good tire up onto this thing, it sort of looks like a wheel chock. That makes the flat tire be off the ground. Looks easier than trying to jack it up.

I also put some etrack on the side walls. I clip hooks into it to hang leathers and stuff.

Your trailer set up sounds cool, HGT! Got any pics?

Re: Trailer Extras

Not at the moment, I'll have to snap a few next time I get out there. Brrrr, cold right now, but I'll have to get it out sometime in the next few weeks to go get the Ducs from the dealer, they're being serviced now.

There's more I'd like to do to it, not much more. I'd like to paint the inside, but I never seem to bother. Maybe this Spring. I do have a lot of exterior white left over from painting the garage...

Electric brakes on both axles. They are worth every penny, plus they take alot of wear and tear off your truck.

Re: Trailer Extras

Yeah, +1 to the electric brakes. They're required on anything bigger than an enclosed 6x12 single axle anyway.

Re: Trailer Extras

Dual axle no need for a spare and you get brakes

Then get some cabinets and other trailer crack. I had a senior workstation on the wall at Barber, I love it. I also had the gas can holder and a helmet cabinet (though that was not installed).

No need for a spare? If it's empty maybe and you don't mind driving really slowly . . .

If I got a flat I could limp in and get it patched. With everything in it I am way below the axle loading. The only thing I would do is be sure the missing tire was not on the axle with brakes.
