Emergency Trailer Wiring Help
When I drove to Greenville last month all of my trailer lights worked perfectly. Last night I loaded the bike for this afternoons departure as I parked at my apartment I noticed the running lights flicker a bit. I checked everything and it seemed to be all systems go. This morning when I went to leave for the hospital things took a turn for the worse. I have brake and turn signals but no running lights. They will occaisionally blink on and off when apply the brakes. Or they will come on when I brake and then remain for a few seconds after releasing the brakes but they always go off shortly afterward. I looked at all connections and they appear to be intact. I have one of the higher end harnesses from etrailer that has the electronic module. It takes power directly from the battery but draws the signal from being spliced into the cars harness. The cars lighting is working fine.

...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG

Do too.
While you're finishing your thought, I believe you have a bad ground.
I had a similar problem with mine and the "disconnect" was in one of the side marker lights. The wires weren't quite run properly through them.
If yours is wired the same, the running light wire runs into the side marker light and then another wire runs from the marker light back to the rear light. Check the connections there.

Thanks, I am losing side marker with the running lights so that makes sense.

It took me a while to figure my problem out. Ended up taking the side marker lens off and pressing the tabs down onto the wires tighter.
The better connection was what made them work.

Ground is my first guess.
You have an electronics module on your trailer harness?

Electronics are ruining towing.

Ground here as well. Something you may try is to take a small jumper wire and connect one end to the car's frame/ground and connect the other to the trailer frame.

Literally just completed the 15:50 drive home. Slept at a reststop in IN near the IL border.
More on this later but a big van would have saved some minor trailer headaches.

No Hammer this year :(
If not the ground wire itself on the trailer it could be an internal ground in the bulb socket itself. Is your ground to the trailer frame or to the truck. Sometimes the grounds are to the frame of the trailer, and you get a ground to the truck through the ball which isn't very good. My thoughts though is the ground in the socket itself.
