DMax Needs Skins
I was inspecting the ~70,000 mile Pirellis on the truck yesterday, and one of the tires has split in the groove and the belt is showing. Dang. Not bad though, they're only the second set of tires and I'm over 120,000 miles.
Anybody have any suggestions for HD truck tires?

Do too.
Which Pirellis do you have on them?
I have the Nitto Mud Terrains on mine and they seem to be wearing well. Put on the truck by the previous owner at about 15ooo mi and they're showing well with 51ooo on it now.

Some model of Scorpion, not sure which. Truck's in the shop getting glow plugs right now so I can't check.
It won't see snow much. Fire roads here and there, but also not very often.
Mostly I want something quiet and long wearing.

Can't speak for them personally but Nitto has an A/T that gets good ratings on mileage and noise.
With 70k plus, I'd probably just do the Pirellis again.
Depending on where my orders take me next (should find out in OCT or NOV), I may be making a tire swap myself.

Too logical.
Just got the call back. 5 glow plugs were dead. A special extended emissions warranty applied to my truck thankfully. Surprised the thing started and ran so well!

Veni Vidi Vici !!
My dad's OEM Michelins on his Ram 3500 Cummins went a solid 70000 miles and that was with a lot of heavy towing. He just last week decided on these. Rated #1 out of 21 tires ranked by TireRack. He does see snow and mud on a fairly regular basis so that figured in to the decision.
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG

I have the BFG All Terrain's. 2nd set. They are ok but I'm only getting about 60k out of them.

The BFG AT's are a very proven all around tire. They're a bit dated compared to some of the competition but they are a solid performer. I have BFG Mud Terrains on my '77 but is definitely not a daily driver and tire life wasn't my concern.

Who's driving?
I just put the LTX M/S on my Tundra. My dad has had excelent milage with these tires. On his 4 cylinder toyota pickup they went 120k. On his tundra he is at 60k and they go 20% or so of life left. Sears has a private labled version of this tire called the XC LT4 that is a bit cheaper.

LTX is what I went with. Started at A/T, but the guy told me milage is lower, and a bit more noise. Since snow and mud are small concerns, I went with the LTX M/S 10 ply.
Amerrican Tire actually beat Tire Rack for me, along with free rotation and such.
So far, I'm a fan. The Scorpions were quiet on the road, but "chirped" around corners and such quite a bit. The Michelins don't. They grip better than I ever remember the Scorps doing too, with the torque of the diesel, this is noticable if you stomp the gas from a stop, or around a corner.

I know I'm late to this thread, but in my extensive experience in this matter through work, the best value for the money is Hankook. Hey perform as well as any of the premium brands but for way less money.

My last set of tires were Hankooks, based on Consumer reports glowing test of the Dynapro AT's several years ago. I found them very dissapointing. On the wear bars before 40k and noticable cracking of the rubber inbetween the tread after 3 years. Sure, $550 a set installed is a great price, but for half the milage I expect out of the XLT's, their $800 price tag is not out of line.

I have LTXs on the Tahoe and after 25K they still look new and have not slipped once one the street, and I tend to drive my Tahoe like I do my Crown Vic... Good choice LTL.

I went for a ride along with my CHP buddy, and laughed like hell at how he drove his Crown Vic, I told him it was the similar to the aggression I use on the track.
