Hammer's new tow vehicle

I had this in motion for about 2 months now. With the recent divorce, I did not "Need" the room of the quad cab, but did find myself missing the 4X4 option. So the old (2007) Quad Cab got replaced today. With a 2009 Chevrolet Standard cab 4X4. 5.3L more bells and whistles than the Quad cab had. Even a locking tailgate (thieves have to reach over the bed rails not to steal your stuff) remote start. So far I like it, but time will tell.

I used to wonder why in the hell you'd want a locking tailgate. I recommend you keep it locked at all times.

Unless the General changed the design, the best reason for that locking gate is keeping your very-fucking-expensive taillights. In the Chevy/GMC trucks, all you have to do is drop the gate and it's two screws to remove the whole assembly...as I learned the wrong way.

I replaced the screws in mine with safety torx, but I thought about retrofitting a locking handle too.

Not as good as I wanted.

MSRP was almost 32k
rebates were 2,500k
Friends and family was 1,750
I added an extended warranty which was 1,500 with the F&F discount.

so not a smoking deal, but good enough.

I hear ya on the tail lights, this one has the lightened tailgate as well, so stealing it would be easy as well. But the truck is usually at my house at night, so no problems there. And at work they have cameras everywhere. But I hear what you are saying. I plan on betting a bed cover for it with the money I get back from my old truck's extended warranty that I never used.

The rotten punks stole mine in front of my house...they were calm enough to even put the tailgate back up.

Man, I didn't think about the tailgate itself.

I've always wished my tundra had a locking tail gate...its completly tool-less and about 5 seconds to remove the tailgate! Good looking ride Hammer

Nice truck, Hammer! Good luck with it.

My F150 has a locking tailgate, never thought I'd bother with it, but now that I've put a lid on the truck, the gate and the lid lock. Nice.

Never thought about locking it so no one would steal my tail lights...jeez.

Thanks guys and gals. I like it.

I was not really a big fan of the new body style, but it was growing on me a little. Even when I bought my 07' I cold have opted for the new body style, but got the classic version. But this truck in person looks awesome! The only thing i still cannot understand is why in the heck did the put the bed rails so dang high of them? Even Seamus would have issues putting something over the rails. Oh well, guess i will have to unlock the tailgate every time.

Yeah, seems to be the trend...the sides of the bed on my 150 are a lot higher than any other truck I've owned. The good thing is that means the tailgate is longer...so if you're transporting long stuff you get a bit extra room. However, the longer tailgate means it just clears the pole with the handle for raising and lowering the front of my trailer. And I mean just clears...like 1/4 inch. To lower the tailgate when hitched, the truck and trailer have to be in a nearly perfect straight line.

+1 to what Red said - thanks.

Even though I work for the cross-town competition, I'll readily admit the GM trucks look pretty good.

I drove the quad cab version of that one around for about a month. Nice truck. Quite a bit bigger than I need though.
Congrats, dude!

Nice rig. If I were buying a pickup I'd go for a single cab as well.

Now bring it over and I'll put some on some tape pinstripes

That is the exact truck my dad bought.. he says it can't pull a big trailer.

Always been a GM guy myself. Had a 2 WD chevy low rider in high school. Loved that truck, loved the motor in it more though.

Believe me, I looked at the imports but none of them looked as good to me nor did they want to deal. But i am happy with it.

Yea, I had the quad cab, but in 2WD. You cannot park in tight spots. But the back seat came in handy several times.

I just like the looks of a standard cab with the short bed. I do not need a longer bed, so this one will do fine for me.

Tell your dad to mash that right pedal a little bit. That truck will scream. I was playing and wondering why the hell I am not breaking traction. Figured out it has traction control.

Push that lil button to take it off and all hell breaks loose.

what you can do is remove the center mounted jack (especially easy if it is bolted on) and replace it with a rail mounted jack that rotates to the horizontal once you are on the hitch... ~$50

I had to do the same when I was towing with my Jeep (spare tire in the way).

Thanks, but it's a7x14 dual axle enclosed trailer and the jack is an integral part of it. The tongue is one single piece that has the jack mounted in it, as an integral part of it.

ok got it. I had one like that too and ended up cutting the jack out with my acetylene torch. I used that hole to make a mount for a spare tire and added the other type jack. If you were to go that way, you could take it to a shop and have them weld on a heavy duty jack than rotates on a welded collar.
I use this on my 16' enclosed trailer and I really like it. You can take it completely off if needed too so its easy to work on or change the foot to a caster and back to a plate with just a pin.

Interesting, thanks! I'm sure the place where I purchased the trailer could do that sort of thing if I wanted. It's a good place. It's not usually a problem, as I'm aware I need to get things straight if I'm going to open the truck gate....it's really just a minor annoyance at this point...

You shouldn't be loading/unloading from the side anyway; beware scratches on that black paint!
