My new trailer!

Hey guys, after a very long vacation and some good quality time with the family, I finally went and got my new trailer. I ended up getting a brand new 6x12 V nose. The thing I liked about it is, I was able to find a cheap one completly unfinished. I want to fabricate it myself, kinda like frenchie and hammer did. I do have a question though....The floor looks pretty thin, and I read a few threads about placement for e tracks and the like. how does one determine the best place to drill, and what bolts to use for chalks / e trax? Also, a question fro frenchie and hammer - I see from your pics that your walls came out a very clean white. Did you use primer? What kind of paint did you use and did you apply it directly to the wooden walls? Any suggestions / ideas will be very appreciated. ( sorry for the pics, its dark outside right now, ill post better ones in the AM )

Re: My new trailer!

Yes you can use primer, or you can use paint. On Frencher6's trailer we used a primer and a semi gloss white outdoor paint for the walls. 1 gallon of primer and 1 gallon of paint will do it. just tape off the trim you do not want paint on and apply like you regularly would. If you want to do the ramp in the play sand and paint, just apply a coat of paint and throw an even coat of sand on it. After than dries repeat the process, I used about 6 coats.

Nice rig, Roscoe - too bad you're too far away for me to borrow it!

Re: My new trailer!

Thanks for the replys, sorry it took so long for me, I have been in florida this week doing the family thing. Primer and paint 1/1 ratio huh? Sounds good. Hammer, you said throw a layer of paint on the ramp and then spread a coat of sand? Or mix the sand and paint 1st? just seems odd to throw sand on wet paint, but maybe im just not used to painting with sand :P

I got a 6x12 and I only have 1 bike, i got it with the intention of hauling me and my friends bikes. I always hear people asking to borrow a rig or buddy hop with someone, so hopefully I will be able to help some people out in the future when I start hitting all the events.

One last question : 3 rails of e track, or 4? Is this trailer large enough for 4 you think? I see mostly 3 rails in peoples, but the salesman recommended 4. I duno if hes just trying to sell me more stuff or what.

Is she cute? that usually helps on her end. Really, I think she's trying to make money out of you cause I don't see where you will need the 4th one. 3 for me and it works wonders.

Edit: BTW... Nice Trailer you got there....

Re: My new trailer!

Painting the rear ramp: Lay down a good coat of paint, sprinkle "Play Sand" on the wet paint and allow to dry. Repeat as many times as you think you need. I think I put 6-7 coats down, another member on here put 17 coats down. Idunno.

E-track : 3 10ft strips should be plenty for 2 bikes.I have put 3 in mine before, but it was a tight fit.

Forget the E-track. Buy a Strapless Transport Stand.

Those are nice, but I decided that if I used the trailer for other purposes I wanted the ability to do so and have tie downs if I needed them.

Re: My new trailer!

I painted the door then put the adhesive sand paper strips (think the things they put on ladders and stairs) across it on about 12" centers. So far it works great.
