I replaced my 2001 Suburban with this new '07 Expedition EL Limited. I like it a lot...pretty nice for a truck. It's got heated and cooled and power leather seats up front; power-folding third row seats (the Suburban's bench has to be physically removed from the vehicle); moonroof; "Audiophile" sound system with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and an AUX jack for iPods and the like; and being a "Limited" model it has monochrome paint. I got black, but after seeing one on the road the other day, I also like it in the Pueblo Gold color.
I needed something full-size for towing. I was considering a pickup, but we have a dog, and I feel better with her inside the SUV and with the family.
The mileage pretty much sucks. I have seen about 16 mpg on the highway thus far (at a ~70mph average), but only 11.5 mpg when towing.
Nice-looking rig. Ford really has an edge in interior design for trucks.
They look OK, pretty nice in the upsepc cases, but I hate the ergonomics.

Kinda makes me want to trade in my 03 xlt. I did the electric fan with BBK underdrive pully conversion on mine. Supposed to pick up some mileage with that mod. Mine is also starting to make a axle bearing whine that is somewhat known flaw to look for. When my washer fluid goes 2 inches down with 4 inches to go it alerts (bad).
Overall I still like mine. Hope they got the bugs out.
Sheeze buddy. I could have saved you some coin (although it doesn't look near as trick as your new ride). I looked at the same rig, but declined when I hooked up my trailer to test it and even with the load distributing hitch, it sagged enough to grind the tongue base getting out of the lot . . .
Now in stereo Visionaries say "Yes, we can."
Engineers say "Not so fast."

Is there a towing capacity diff between the two? I thought the only diff was in the motor and the bells and whistles.

Oh yeah...the Excursion was a beast...diesel-powered (although I'm not sure they ALL were?) and a heavier frame - an F-250-based truck, if I recall correctly.
The 2WD Expedition EL tows up to 9200 pounds; mine does 9000. I'm pretty sure my trailer doesn't weigh anything near that, even with an ATV and a bike and a ton of computers and printers and crap inside it. The truck's tongue limit is 600 pounds unless you've got a weight-distributing hitch, which I don't have yet. I'm not entirely sure where to go to learn the tongue weight - any ideas? I'm pretty sure it would break my bathroom scale.

The Excursion/SD250 platform has way more suspension than the Expedition. Different animal entirely. The Expedition is based on the F150 chassis. I'm certain Taz's ride has more bells and whistles in terms of creature comfort, but my Excursion is rated at 325 HP/560 FT Pounds of torque.
Mine is rated for 11.5K towing without a load distributing hitch. I suspect the Expedition is somewhat lower (probably around 9500 or thereabouts). The Expedition has a Class 3 hitch (at least it did when I was looking) while the Excursion is Class 4.
Mine gets an honest 18 mpg on the road and a very respectable 15 mpg pulling my trailer (which I had at 10,200 pounds last year for 250 miles and still got 15 mpg).

If you have a grain COOP around, just use their scales and drop the trailer fully loaded with only the tongue on the platform.

Tongue weight is usually 10% of trailer weight.
