Trailer Dolly

So, in order to position my trailer in my driveway so that I can still access it to use it to store stuff, and also not have it block the driveway, I needed to be able to position it so that the hitch was positioned away from the driveway. No way to put it there with a tow vehicle. I tried moving it by hand which was not hard with my 6x10 but the way the 6x12 v-nose is weighted, it is too heavy for me to do by hand. So I picked up a tow dolly from Amazon.com. It was about 30-40 bucks I think and about 25 to ship. I put it together yesterday. Looks like it will do the job well. I've never seen one before, but a neat little item. I'll let you know how well it works or doesn't work.

Re: Trailer Dolly

They come in handy after a long day at the track. I've also mounted a tongue wheel for minor jockeying.

Re: Trailer Dolly

Thanks T-O for posting this info. Even though I only have a 5x8 utility trailer, it's not easy getting it into position in my garage or in my storage unit when it has two dirtbikes on it. I'm stopping at Harbor Freight on my way home today to pick one up. I knew these things existed, but for whatever reason, never thought to get one until you posted about it.

I only thought about it when I tried manhandling my 6x12 into place... I thought there had to be a better way. I first looked into getting one of those wheel attachments for the front stand, but none were heavy duty enough... I haven't tried it out yet, but hopefully it will work! I have to move the trailer in the next week to get it out of the way with family coming into town for the holidays...

Are you talking about a retractable wheel for the tongue? If so, go to any boating store, that's where I bought mine. I've got one that's rated for 1500 lbs. I use the dolly when I need to move the trailer around with a full load, but the tongue wheel is handy if I only need to move it a little for lining it up with the hitch ball.

Re: Trailer Dolly

You can also pick these up at "Menards" if you have one in your area for $40. Nice review though, I was getting tired of manually picking the 6x10 and will back behind the garage.

Re: Trailer Dolly

They do make powered versions as well for those of you with extremely steep driveway grades.

Oh, I was just making a general observation, not thinking of anyone specific.

But now that you mention it, I believe he would fall in that category, wouldn't he?

Re: Trailer Dolly

Haven't we had this conversation before?... I got one at Harbor Freight for my 6X10. The single tongue wheel doesn't work well on my rough driveway but the pneumatic tires on the dolly work great. I can drag around 2,400 lbs or so over the rolled curb and up the driveway if need be. Now if I can just get my tire pressures to heat up 15% I'll get maximum traction making that last turn into its parking spot.

for ease of hitch mounting

and that tongue wheel comes in handy when ya cant bring the dolly along for the ride.....works wonders when you're loading/locking up bikes overnight for multi-trackdays.

Re: Trailer Dolly

I got a chance to use this thing a couple of times... It works well. I am over the limit for what it is supposed to be used for, but it is holding up so far...
