Re: Shady Valley ride

I left Huntsville a bit late at 9:30 but had been wanting to do this ride for a while now. I went up to I24 the back way through Sewannee TN, then down to Chattanooga hit I75 and superslabbed to just short of Bristol. Got off and went by the speedway (car stadium )

Up to US421, fairly boring stretch but now I was there. Headed up to Shady Valley on US421 kind of fun but I get to the store and there is all kinds of EZ Ups. Seems the cruisers had mini-rally. Kind of a bummer as I was hoping to chill there a bit but kept moving due to the crowd.

Continued to Mountain City jumping on 91 to Sugar Creek. That section of US421 was OK but well short of what I had expected. 91 is kind of interesting and gets better just before crossing into Virginia (state 13 on the RR ). I loop back into TN on 133.

The road was fun but along the way there is a cool tunnel that I had to stop and hike up to. By the time I got back to the bike I was drenched. Got a bug picture for Bacchus. I had been sweating a huge amount as it was high 90's but that was a bit much. I got rolling though and the evaporation felt great.

Stopped to see the Shady Valley flock. Then into the road block, welcome to TN

Continued down 91 and got a wild hair to go back roads home. Not 100% sure of the route but I did detour through Gatlinburg. Between Gatlingburg and Pigeon Forge I got my fill of people, traffic and neon to last a while (and then some). Did the bypass loop back to avoid the Gatlinburg parking lot.

Got in a bit late but all in all a mostly fun ride of 820 miles with a state to add to my all 48 project

Time to debug the bike now

Sheep, do you have risers on that thing or is it stock?

Stock except a throttle meister that I don't use a ton. I did get the heavy weights that damp things a bit. This winter I may swap to stainless lines though. And clean my taillight.....

Oh the only down (other than the sheep hunters with badges) was I figured being so hot I would toss the microfleece for the way home and save tailbag space. Not good, as it got a bit chilly and damp (70º) for mesh. I rode a long way tucked to get out of the damp/cold. I learned that the microfleece should always stay

70 degrees is nothing.... but I guess its damn near freezing for what yer used to down there...

I never had a problem with long distances on my blade... but since I've been using a VFR on the street for the last few months I've been spoiled with the riding position. I got on the blade for the first time since June and I was like WTF!?

Seeing you tour on a 1000 is good though... i can almost justify buying one as a do-almost-all bike. decisions decisions..

I have not been out in anything that cold in a while. Plus I did only have mesh with a tshirt under it. If it is 80ish for a high I go leather then things get a bit toastier. All day in full leathers and I would have had heat stroke or been dehydrated. I was not kidding when I say my shirt has salt stains from sweating that much.

Careful though as I most I meet only go 1-200 miles. There are those that say I am not quite right

Re: Shady Valley ride

Looks like a great ride and the pictures are beautiful. Looks like a route to keep on my list BUT first, I have to get used to riding in this heat and in this traffic .

Re: Shady Valley ride

That's a heck of a one-day ride. I think the most I've ever done in one day is about 350, and I was sore afterwards.

That 1000RR must be a fairly comfy setup.

Re: Shady Valley ride

Nice tour sheep. If I had roads like those to explore you'd have a hard time keeping me off of them too. Glad to see that you are enjoying it.

Funny thing is, I find my friends 06 Gixxer thou much more comfy than my 1KRR. Mind you that may be the rearsets and the suspension though. Either way, nice pics, nice ride.

Traffic you are going the wrong way if that is an issue. Now on heat yep August will roast you but if you are in state after Miller I can show you tons of stuff closer in.

Nice pics sheepster! That rock wall they've opened up for the roadway is awesome. And thanks for thinking of me with the millipede shot. But, where're the snakes?!

As per our agreement (me and snakes) none volunteered for suicide.
