Le Mans 07

It's that time of year again. I might not be able to ride at Grattan (for which you should all be thankful) but my annual trip to Le Mans begins tomorrow. If anyone wants to catch up with the news:

! Official website of 24 Heures du Mans 2007 and 24 Heures Moto 2007 - ACO

Audi's established diesels play Peugeot's new diesels for the top category, while Saleen, Corvette C6 and C5's and Aston Martin DBR9 with the odd Spyker and Ferrari play together. There's another couple of classes too.

The race starts at 3pm rather than the traditional 4pm Saturday. The second round of the French parliamentary elections are on Sunday, so there may be extra carnival fun. The weather forecast is mixed, warm and humid with heavy rain possible.

I'm envious. I lived in Germany for a couple of years, and my one big regret is not making it to LeMans.

Give us the full report when you return, very interested in how the Peugeot diesel does.

Re: Le Mans 07

I was at the American LeMans event a few weeks back, and those carse are just so awesome to see up close and watch on the track.
I'm a bit surprised none of the Acura LMP2 cars entered. Maybe a rules issue? I'll have to dig and see. Anyway, they were fast. The Audis are rocketships and damn near silent, but both had issues in the pits here and the overall went to an LMP2 Acura.
The GT1 Corvettes are fast, O'Connell and Fellows are very fast in particular, but the Saleens and DB9s will give them fits.
That Risi Racing 430 is hands down the class of the GT2 field. Salo and Melo are killer drivers. Salo should be, considering his resume.

I'd pick watching these cars or the Rolex Sports Cars over F1 or NASCRAP every day of every week. Amazing cars.

Re: Le Mans 07

Back from a great weekend, spoilt only by the very heavy rain. The first photo is Sunday afternoon, taken from the inside of friend's Porsche accompanying the bikes. The second is "typical" of the kind of cars that some of the spectators take, a Vauxhall 30/98 tourer with those neat rear screens that came in very handy that day.

One of the must-do's is riding the big wheel at night.

There was some great racing, but by the Sunday midday and the torrential rain, accompanied by the safety car, the race was over.

We managed to watch the one-hour classic race on Saturday morning with a good battle between a GT40 and a Ferrari 250LM (I think) for second place behind another GT40.

Lunch at Rouen on the way down on Friday, two of the classic car race, one of me (centre) all from or on the banking at Indianapolis / Arnage corners.

Wow that's pretty cool that you were there. I watched part of it on TV when night was turning in to day. Those Audi's are just amazing machines. Would love to see that in person some day.
