Memorial Day rides

Post 'em here (w/pics)

I am considering two different rides. One would be to the GA mountains though I fear it may be overrun with tourists and bears Probably do this as I need more vidalia onion sauce . The other is a top secret long distance run (sub iron butt) but at 800+ miles I am not sure especially if I do a GA ride before it (might have to swap tires in between).

Anyone planning migration that only involve 2 wheels

I was planning 250ish miles to visit Mid-America Motorplex but the weather is supposed to be very stormy all weekend (the remnants of all the tornado weather that has been crossing the plains) and I just heard that the Duc truck has cancelled for the event.

We're heading down to southern AL to meet up with friends to ride down to the Gulf area (Destin/FT Walton Beach).

I twisted some old racer dude's arm enough that we are going to go out for a long Saturday spin....probably do 50-60 miles before we get tired and head for the barn...

I plan on riding Sunday, but I doubt I'll go too far. Probably just end up running around in circles.

Well leg one is complete (still not 100% sure on leg two). A nice 550 mile graze over to blood mountain then almost to SC. I was in AL, TN, GA, NC at various times. The first three are pictures from an outlook on the NC end of the Ocoee river valley, this was the site of kayaking for the 1996 Olympics. Then on to Blood Mountain. I hung at the top for a spell as there was a Harley crash and the cops and ambulance were on the downside. No sense in getting in the way. After a while I did a pass up and down then was off to Helen.

Came into Helen on the wrong end and fought through the circus to the south end. I only wanted to hit Nora Mill for some supplies but came in the wrong end (been a while since I was in Helen). Picked up some Vidalia Onion Sauce and Stone Ground Pancake mix Cool place but they weren't running the mill today, it is cool when then do as you can feel it vibrate the place.

Stopped on the edge of town to check out an Indian Burial Mound. Stopped at Tallulah Gorge but didn't go to the falls this time just saw an overlook. Saw a bizarre store. Then toured around and saw a cool cascade on the side of the road.

EDIT: Oh and those are LIVE goats up there (sorry I could not see getting the long lens out for a goat)

Leg two called off I was considering a surprise guest appearance at Putnam. It would have been great to stop and see everyone even if it would have only been for an hour or so. The master plot was to head up, stop at the track and stretch out for a spot, then loop over to I59 and then home. It would have been 1008 miles Yep another Iron Butt attempt. I am pretty sure I could do that loop in the required time. However with 550 yesterday I would be starting a bit worn. Still possible but the kicker is that the tires would be done when I got in and there is a reasonable chance of rain over in west IL. Therefore at the most tire worn and me worn I had a decent probability of hitting rain So in the tradition of pelt protection I will stop to ride another day

Just returned from the Gulf, still hanging out in southern AL. All 5 of us are safe and sound. Didn't take many pics but will post up when I get home tomorrow.

Sheep you ever heard of cleaning your visor. there's no prize for collecting the most in a lifetime.

went for a good ride today. it was nice because I haven't taken the bike out in probably 3 weeks because I've been doing every OT shift thats been offered, which has been one or 2 a week. went down to meet up with a friend and just rode east from his place toward the Cape Cod Canal. stopped for a coffee and rode back with a few different roads thrown in. I did about 170 miles I think, not really sure. but it was nice, haven't rode that long with anyone else in a long time.

I was not able to do the ride I really wanted to do...

So I took the RC51 on a 150 mile shake down cruise to Clearwater. She did fine.

Then I got to take another shake down cruise...on my bro-in-law's newly aquired boat! Ran around Clearwater Bay and the Gulf a bit, then anchored off Clearwater beach...

Be riding the RC home tomorrow.

I swapped near the AL/TN border on US72. That was about 1 hours worth of bugs coming in. Certain stretches are fierce at dusk and I hit ALL of them (getting off of I65 onto I565 out west of here is worse at that time). Might head out on a short ride today

Nice boat. He get it from Michigan? Unbelievable deals can be found in the used boat market in this state right now.
