Strange ride today

Nothing shocking but just a collection of eyebrow-raising moments...

I did my typical 175 mile Sunday loop this morning and the weather was just about perfect. Started out in the low 60's and it had risen to the low 80's by the time I rolled into the driveway a little after midday. Sunny but with just enough thin clouds to knock off the hard glare.

I usually ride through the Sam Houston National Forest on my way north to Carlos, TX and they were doing a lot of uncontrolled burns. It was smokey in some sections but I never saw a single person monitoring the burn sites. There must have been at least six separate burn sites just off of TX 149.

On my way up, I have to slab it a few miles and an idiot in an Acura MDX just about took me out by "merging" onto the Interstate without yielding and without signaling. I had to lay on the brakes to keep from getting taken out since the left lane was occupied. Anyhow, I avoid the vulgar hand signals (it's Sunday, you know) and kindly give him the two fingers to the eyes and the open-closed hand, which translated means "watch where you're going and please use your signals". He didn't like that.

I then get in the left lane to try and get around slower traffic that is in front of him. He doesn't like this either and quickly squeezes his MDX (full of his offspring, mind you) into a very tight spot between the truck in front of me and the vehicle in front of him. This made the driver of the white pick-up unhappy.

We're all in the left lane now and I drop a gear and swing into the right lane to get around the whole mess. MDX-man likes this even less. He whips into the right lane behind me but by this time I've gotten back in the left lane and pinned him behind a slower car. I graciously slow down to keep him pinned in the right lane as he proceeds to get the same cut-off treatment from another vehicle "merging" onto the Interstate . This really sets him off. Fortunately, his exit is the next exit and he departs the highway after spreading much good cheer in a matter of only 3 miles.

I didn't think much about it after that but I made my exit and I'm waiting at the stop light to turn left. I look over to the right and the white pick-up that almost got taken out by this idiot pulls up beside me with the window down. He's giving me the thumbs-up and all happy that I pinned "that a$$hole like he deserved". It's good to get props from a cage every now and then.

Moving on, I make it up to Carlos and stop and my usual gas station and grab a soda and a pack of crackers. This guy in a Suburban pulls in the parking lot (he never gets out the whole time) and his wife and three teenage sons get out and empty out the store of junkfood. After they get back to the Suburban, the wife basically strips off her Sunday dress in the parking lot and puts on her jeans and cowboy boots. Odd. And it would have been much better if she was attractive.

Wildlife near misses:

2 birds (flock departed the road as I was approaching)
1 squirrel missed by mere inches
1 yorkie yapping at me as I was riding through my neighborhood on the way home.

Strange vehicle sightings:

1 Cheetah - the three wheel "motorcycle" with a V8 that looks like something out of the Munsters

1 Mystery Machine - yes, the Scooby-Doo one.

Of note, I never thought it would cost me over $15 to fill up a motorcycle.
