Route Planning Input from Houston to Indianapolis?

We're doing the relocation thing and the wife totally surprised me by asking if I was going to ride the bike from Houston up to our new locale in Indianapolis... please don't throw me in the brier patch

The dilema I have is this: Should I take the western Arkansas route through the Ozarks or should I go a little farther east and do the Natchez Trace Parkway?

I've heard great things about the Parkway and I'm leaning that direction if not for the sole reason that I believe that this may be my only opportunity to ride all 440 miles of it. The Ozarks seem to be a fairly popular motorcycle destination and I could foresee traveling there while living in Indiana.

Thoughts? Anyone ridden the Trace?

I have ridden all of the trace except the very end by Natchez (bastids opened it the next week). The trace is limited in speed but scenic. Nothing spectacular on turns. There is some historic stuff on it like the burial place of Lewis of Lewis and Clark. Also some waterfalls north of the TN border. Watch for critters and a GPS to find gas is good as there is zero signs for it on the Trace. Also if you do go check out some of the old trace as it is impressive (well to me).

I'd prefer not to ship the bike and have no access to it while in storage for two months - especially during the prime summer riding months.

My approach is to try and enjoy the trip as much as possible without the restraints of time or pressure of iron butt.

I haven't taken the Natchez, but have done the route through Arkansas a few times on my way to Dallas. If interested, I can give a few route ideas. Won't have Lewis, but it does go by Dog Patch and a beautifule pass through the mountains to Oklahoma. No freeways from just west of St. Louis all the way to just north of Dallas.
