1993 Katana

I might have the opportunity to pick up a 1993 Katana in pretty decent shape.

Does anyone have experience, or an opinion on these bikes?

How would it be for track-days? How is the parts availability?

Re: 1993 Katana

Usually they are heavy and underpowered. They also have a more upright riding position to them. I have not seen many on the track so I have no experience with them.

Around here they're the poor man's 'Busa, when you want to ride a stretched, two-wheeled boat but don't have the funds for the power.

I've never heard a good thing about a Kan-a-tuna...overweight and underpowered. That said...people say the same thing about the 51

I'd pass

Probably will pass. The only temptation was that it might come in under $1k. I figured it might be a decent starter track bike, but then again I wouldn't want to put a lot of upgrades into it.

As for the RC, not many will ever understand that there is more to life than the latest, lightest, and fastest.

Re: 1993 Katana

I think it's a fantastic buy for under $1K. For poops and giggle and the fact you're on a bike is okay. I wouldn't track it b/c parts would be harder to find, and you may end up paying a premium for it....

A "new" vehicle for under a G? I'd do it if I wanted to ride.

For the track, pass. For cheap transpo, go for it.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I don't need it for transpo. It's a pass then.

Likely a good decision. I had '90 as a first bike and it was a decent lightweight commuter, but needed serious suspension work to handle well, and it would be severely heavy compared to the current crop of 600's.

Re: 1993 Katana

I don't even think they are water cooled. May have an oil cooler, though.
