Do you wear separate armour?
Do you wear a separate back protector, or other armour, under your leathers for trackday riding? Assuming your suit has full armour.
What do you use if so, and what are the pro's and con's?

Re: Do you wear separate armour?
Separate back protector, yes. I'm currently using a Knox ricochet.
All other armor is velcroed into the suit.

Re: Do you wear separate armour?
I've used an Alpinestars GP Tech back protector for 2 almost 3 years now. Won't go on the track w/o it, and it got to the point where I felt naked on the street w/o it.
Everyone knows (I think) that I just purchased the Alpinstars Bionic jacket to wear under my leathers. I'm pretty excited about it but haven't been able to try it out yet.

Re: Do you wear separate armour?
Yes, I always wear a back protector. In fact many of the tracks I ride, the grid marshal will give you a pat on the back at the 5 min board to check if you are wearing one.

I somehow missed that thread!
Just went and looked at it, wow! It looks like it will work well.
Do you leave the armour in your suit on top of the Bionic jacket?

I'm certian that I'll have to take the armor out of the suit, especially in the forearms/elbows. Probably the shoulders as well.

And you better have a suit that's two sizes too big for you...
I just bought the Field armor from Icon. Have not tried it on the bike yet. No need to remove the armor on the leathers but a bigger suit is needed to fit it.

I don't know if that's going to be necessary. It looks bigger in the pics than in real life, and the armor is exactly the same as what's *in* the suit. The difference is the chest protection and the method in which the armor is held in the correct place.

Do too.
Re: Do you wear separate armour?
I have a Bohn back protector. Use it on and off the track.
Two things I want to minimize injuries to are my knees and my back.

Re: Do you wear separate armour?
I have a Bohn Pro Race back protector and don't feel right without it now. It's very comfortable after it's broken in. In fact, I even pulled onto hot pit lane during a trackday once because I'd thought I forgot it. I had it on, just forgot to fasten the Velcro across the chest!

My Vanson suit has built in armor and back pad, but I always wear a Bohn back protector with it.

Re: Do you wear separate armour?
Alpinestars GP Tech here too, also with all the suit armor. I heard something about an Astars chest protector that is either out now, or is coming out. I'm gonna look into one of those, too.

Re: Do you wear separate armour?
Heavy-Dee, lemme know how that bionic jacket works, I just started looking at that since you mentioned it.
Never mind...I saw the other thread.

Re: Do you wear separate armour?
Yesterday, I went by my local cycle gear to pick up a new set of knee pucks and looked at back protectors. They had the A* one for 150ish and a Dainese one for 180ish. I decided to just get the knee pucks. When I get back to work (I was on my lunch break) I have an email from them saying they are having a 10% off sale after 7pm tonight. I think I am going to go ahead and pick up the A* protector on sale.

Re: Do you wear separate armour?
when I got my leather suit the first thing I did was ditch the flimsy foam piece for the nice thick CEI foam back protector that was in my old jacket. I felt much better with that in there.
haven't ridden the track yet but I'm all set up for this summer. I got a Spidi Back Warrior for christmas. Can't wait to actually try it out.

Yes.

Trackday suit?
I commute in leathers every ride. I think its why the chippers let me slide all the time... That or my neighbor chipper has me on the corkboard. The backprotector is always on too.

Ben Spies > You
Hmm, seeing how this thread is back to life, and I never posted I figure I may as well. I use a Forcefield Back Protector and a Forcefield Chest Protector under my suit whenever I am on the track.

I don't go to the track, but I wear the Alpinestars armor shirt and MSR armored shorts under my gear for my off road rides. I wear Joe Rocket jacket/pants for the street.

?
What do think about this for an all in one chest and back protector?
Alpinestars Bionic SP Vest - Read Reviews and Buy at KneeDraggers.com
My jacket has built in chest padding that could be upgraded if they made something else to go in the pockets but this might be easier?

Also like that the jacket can move to match my body movements but the chest and back protection stay tightly in place.

Impact armor for me. Chest and back protector, custom tailored. A lot of the professional riders use the same...

I have An A* backprotector that was fitted with the suit. I am not sure if i am going to go for the chest protector.
When i crashed at buttonwillow the armor built into the suit worked very well as did the Scorpion helmet.
One advantage of wearing a backprotector that has flaps that velcrow around your waist is that they hold you insides while driving over crappy roads like the 405 or 110 in LA. otherwise your pissing blood after 30 minutes.

I'd see a DR about that Repeater. Ask him to prescribe you a Motard or something with more suspension.
Right after the rain here in LA. All kinds of HUGE potholes open up all over the freeways. Thats some of the worst suprises I have rolled across.
I am thinking about getting a regular back protector instead of using the zip off protector from my Dainese backpack.
