Yes, I wear a separate back protector or armour.
-
No, I think the armour in the suit is enough.

Back Protector
I wear a SPIDI Warrior.
It is Light, Comfortable, and compact with pretty good back coverage.
And washable
I NEVER leave home with out it.
It seems like everyone is starting to get on the Back and Chest protector band wagon???
I Beleave the SPIDI and KNOX make some of the best stuff for those that are daily riders.
Most people do not know that Revit uses KNOX in there jackets and suits.
So you do not need to get the better armor upgrade when you get a new jacket from another maker.
Just head over to sportbikegear.com and take a look at there selectin of armor

being in Europe, I have a German 1 piece suit by Hein Gericke. I've left the original "Hiprotec" arnour in it, as it's the one of the most comfortable armours on the market. It's like a honeycomb(ish) rubber that sits inside pockets built into the suit lining. Only downside is that it's not so resilient to punctures. But it has been designed to take multiple impacts... i.e. if you come off your bike and tumble, rather than traditional solid armour taking one hit and being rendered fairly useless, the Hiprotec will keep protecting you as you bounce... also, as it is a flexible rubber, it "gives" a little more, as opposed to "digging" into your elbows, knees, etc.

Oh... nearly forgot, the suit came with a CE approved Hiprotec back protector as standard

I finally got my A-stars Bionic vest a couple months ago and I go EVERYWHERE with it under my fully armored jacket. When I ordered it I figured it would be mostly for the track but it fits well and is unintrusive so I just where it wherever I go now.

How much room would you say it takes up? Did you get your suit one size bigger? I was thinking of buying some pieces, but wasn't sure if it would fit in there.

He puts it under the existing suit armor but remember that most suit back pads are removable. That allows you to mix and match for the fit to some degree.

good thought...that tecnic suit I bought is tight. I tried to exchange it for larger...long story but I'm stuck with it. Wanted it big enough to add a chest protector and extra knee pads, but looks like I'll have to settle for a back protector.

Yeah, pretty much what Sheep said.

My jacket (Alpinestars MX-1) has removeable foam chest armor and a removeable back protector (cheap foam). I leave all of that in and wear the bionic vest underneath. I purposely bought the jacket one size large for that reason. Also, it actually gives me a better fit because I'm really tall and thin, 5'10" with only a 36in chest. So going slightly bigger gave me the extra length that I needed but left it a little baggy in the chest. The extra armour makes it fit nice and snug. If I needed just a little more room I could remove either the foam in the back or in the chest.
