OK here is pics of the damage. I think there is a chance the scratches are from just touching down while sliding. Of course I value my head so my guess is not good enough. I am sending it off to Arai to have it checked this Saturday so....

it's hard to tell by the pictures but i think you may get lucky with arai but get screwed by the safety tech at a race if i were you i'd pick up a new helmet for the track and keep this one (if it passes inspection) for the street just to be on the safe side when it comes to track inspection.
tough to say. just remember that if that eps liner took any impact when you hit the ground its gonna be crushed some in that spot. looks like it could be a likely spot for another impact should it touch pavement again.
f1 has some good advice there. if it checks out fine street it. it is a really sweet design.

Just add it to your stack of trophy helmets (or start one), and buy a Scorpion 700.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government.

Already have the one I rode with at FBo '05 a '01 Haga RX7-RR4. I also have a Arai Kitagawa also which is my track helmet now. Though IF Arai says it is safe this one will be my street/backup helmet. The Scorpians are nice but I just don't like the fit on me. If that one is declared dead I may get a X11, I liked the fit (slightly less than an Arai) and would like to test one for noise, ventilation and long rides. Also the distributor does TourMaster and I want some pants from them I think (maybe gloves also)

As suspected there is no cracks and no compression. He is putting a new vent on and sending it back with documentation I also had him add a couple of goodies in the box (shield and bag).
So it will be my touring helmet and a backup at the track. I will even be able to tell lies on the road. "...yep I tuck the front at Baa-rber going 95MPH and scratched her up a bit..."

Good luck, hope you never have to test another helmet.
Glad it got a good report Sheep!

He is being witty regarding the modular helmet thread, Sheep.

Not to jack the thread or anything, but does ARAI rebuild helmets? Mine is going to expire this year, and I'd hate to shelf it if I don't have to... I can always sell it to a stunter

The real topic is likely done.
I strongly doubt it but if you go to the website there is a section to send stuff to tech. They responded quick to me.
Now the reason I doubt it. My understanding on the reason for the 5 year limit is that the foam padding, styrofoam liner and fiberglass all age. The foam padding will loose it's spongieness. The Styrofoam will also not crush the same while the fiberglass will get brittle. If my understanding is correct they could reuse the chin strap

Sell it to the stunna anyway.

Well, I found the X-11 to have to much ventilation. My eyes are a little sensitive to wind, and even with the vents shut down, there was too much air flow past my eyes and they would water. So I had to wear shades or clear glasses (with the foam edges) whenever I worn that helmet.
Of course, it was to big for my head, but those were my impressions. We all have different heads of course, but I just thought I would give you some info I have on that helmet.
My new RF-1000 seems to have decreased the airflow so that my eyes can handle it without any glasses. In colder weather however, I am noticing more fogging.
I got to vote after the news. That is so cool!
The bummer is that I tossed an Arai that was probably just fine. One of my many paranoias strikes again.

Wait a minute: You said your X-11 is too big. That's a major bad, right there. But the ventilation on the eyes may still be fixable. When I wear my contacts I can't take the wind and I have this helmet. The windscreen is adjustable and it may need to be adjusted. I had to adjust mine.
The only reason I thought it might be OK as I remember what I did when I went down (the sound of a helmet scraping is unique ) I remember thinking to remember to relax and go with the slide (a mistake many make in my opinion is to fight it) but I relaxed a little to much and touched the helmet down. So there was no real impact if my recollection was correct, as it turned out to be

Got my helmet and goodies back already. Quick return with a document on Arai letterhead for the inspection. Also had them put a shield on (light smoke to add to my arsenal of shields) and a bag for storing it.
to Arai
