Back protector recommendations?
What is everyone running for a back protector? I ready heavy dee's little blurb and would like to go to something "smaller" if I could.
I have not bad room in my suit(at least I did before the winter )
how about the teknic one?
Gonna be picking one up before the spring so any suggestions would be great.

Re: Back protector recommendations?
dumb question: Do you guys, and girls, wear a strap on back protector under your suit in stead of the slip in one that would go in the suit back pocket?

That is what I am looking for, the strap type, My suit has VERY little padding in it in the back.

Re: Back protector recommendations?
Don't think that I will have room for the ICON but the other two are pretty good looking.
Like I said my suit does not offer much in the way of padding/proection, so I am thinking that one of these would be in my best interest.
Why would you prefer the hard armour? Smaller profile? better protection?

With hard armour, in the event of a getoff the impact force is spread to a larger area and not concentrated in one area like soft armour.

Re: Back protector recommendations?
Perfect. Great info Hammer, I was wondering if it was something along those lines.
Those seem to be pretty good prices too.

I have a Dainese, That I've had for 8 years, I have the newer thicker ones but I still use the thinner version. I had a 120mph get off and although the majority of my crash was sliding on my back, it kept the heat off my back. I'll see if I can find a pic of my leathers with the rug burns on them.

Re: Back protector recommendations?
I've had a 7 link Teknic for a long time now. I really like it, but some of those all-in-one type "shirts" with built in spine, chest and arm protection seem pretty intriguing to me.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government.

Re: Back protector recommendations?
I have a Dianese 8 plate and it has saved my spine twice (once when I was run over by a teammate on his GSXR1100). If you aren't over 6' tall, go for the 7 plate version.

I'll have to box one up and see what the shipping will be I'm guessing between $6 and $9 in the lower 48.
I'll have a shipped price on Tuesday.

Strap-ons??
Ok, seriously, I wear a separate "strap-on" if you will, back protector on the track. On the street, I have a CE one that is velcroed in the jacket. I keep wanting to wear a separate one on the street, too, but it's just too cumbersome to deal with at lunch stops, etc., so I make due with the one that is in the jacket. On the track, as mentioned, the separate one is the way to go.

I'm a fan of the Knox stuff. I have the Ricochet, which is fairly thin. They have a new one out now, that I'd have gotten instead if it was available last year. The new one is called the Contour: Sportbike Track Gear BODY ARMOR:Knox armor
(scroll down to the Contuor)
I did some reading elswhere about the Contour and it's a Level II CE, which is better than the Level I Ricochet that I purchased. I got my Ricochet from BritishMotorcycleGear

I must admit, HGT, you were not on the top of my list of suspects.
But I know better now!
Thanks for the input.. oh great, what's going to happen with that statement?

Re: Back protector recommendations?
Just make sure the protector is comfortable enough to wear all the time, street and track. You can have a fantastic one in the closet, but it isn't going to do you much good if you crash without it.

I wear the jacket insert on group rides when I know I will have multiple stops.... If I just go on a quick/solo day ride I wear my Joe Rocket bp (although I am looking to upgrade to something with a chest protector)
I just feel like you need even more protection on the street than on the track. Now that I am used to all the gear its hard to go without it.

That is good advice!
It's funny how once you get used to wearing your gear, or seat belt, you feel naked without it!
Oh no , what will HGT do with that?

Re: Back protector recommendations?
Well, I certainly won't ride nekkid!
I'd use a full back protector on the street, too, but it really doesn't fit very well under my 2 piece street suit. Fits great under the one piece for the track, though. On the street, I'm torn about wearing the full, separate back protector. I want to, but it is pretty inconvenient. At least I have the CE one in the jacket, I upgraded to the Vanson CE over their regular hard plate one.

Look at this one. Very comfy and fits under anything. Hot in the summer, but most are warm, anyway.

Re: Back protector recommendations?
I currently have the Knox Richochet, which looks to be as thin as that or thinner. The problem with the 2 piece is it fits correctly in the waist area, so there isn't room to tuck a protector into the pants. That seems not to be a problem with the one piece.
