    Sheepview: Arai Corsair V

So I had a chance to get one at a price that almost made me feel guilty. While my other two (RX7 Corsairs) had a year left one is marked (though Arai says still safe) and both have a lot of use. So here is the review (as usual slowly posted as I do it).

At 3lb 11.8oz it is 2.4oz heavier than my previous helmet. Not huge but I would have preferred lighter. That is for an XL while most specs seem to be M.

One great improvement I have noticed already is the levers on it are MUCH better. The clickers in the top vents are large enough you should get a better feel from them with gloves on (the other was not terrible but not that great either). The back levers are larger also but still could use a bump or something to indicate open close like the top has The side plates are still there (not a fan as I have had to replace them on my previous helmet) but the latch lever are actually easy to find vs the old mystery ones.

I will post up pictures and more later. Hopefully global warming takes enough of a break that it get above f*$^&#g cold today and I can get out to use it.

I love mine! I picked up a Hopkins this past summer.

The corsairs are the only helmet I've tried that doesn't create pressure points on my head. Prior to buying my RX-7 Corsair, I really wanted a Shoei RF1000. When I made it out to the store and started trying them on I knew it wasn't going to happen. The sales guy, who was my buddy, recommended an Arai. I tried it on and was instantly sold.

I've gone down twice with my RX-7, once on the street and once on the track. Thankfully both times my head didn't touch the ground!

It's safe to say that I'm sold on Arai, for life.

So I did a short run on the Ascot up to Lynchburg with it. It is snugger than my old XL though I expect it will wear in a bit and get closer (though it is not to snug so if not I am fine). The wider portal is very noticeable and also a nice plus. After running this I am betting my other helmet will feel like blinders. I plan on testing both at the track soon. It might be quieter but I really need a side my side for that. Otherwise seems stable and no compliants. The weight was not a factor but an all day ride is where that would matter anyway.

    So a bit more.

I went to Barber and used it on day one. The weather was funky and I wanted a light tint shield so swapped back the second day. It has improved aerodynamics and the wider view is great on the track. Still a shade snugger but not enough that someone would jump up a size in my opinion. It is quieter for sure. Gets 4 hooves up at the track

I went on a 6 hour ride with it the other day. The weight is slightly noticeable but was not tiring (I did spend a bit more time stopped with it off looking at the phone radar to avoid the rain though). My RR has a spot that has wicked turbulence that will shake my old Corsair. The only solution was to move up or down slightly. While the new model can still get caught there the effect is a mild nuisance rather than a keep out zone, huge improvement. Also was quieter on this ride allowing me to hear the RR better, still ride with earplugs. Not sure on airflow as I have not really had weather that was hot enough to open everything up.

Nice improvement but I would have liked to see the weight drop rather than increase

I like the review and it is good to see that the new eye opening is a noticeable difference.

But I guess we can't have everything, especially if the nominal weight increase means a safer helmet.

I put on my Corsair V and RX-7 back to back last night and didn't notice a weight difference. Mind you, both of mine are size small.

Ohhh how I love these helmets, I wanna buy more....

You didn't notice? Did you ride or just sitting? To me the V is a slight bit heavier and the weight feels like it is real low on the helmet (thus not annoying)
