One major problem I have with the Icon helmets is that they are all polycarbonate. Not the best choice of material for a helmet.

I'm wacky times.
I bought an Icon because it was what I could afford in the DOT/Snell-approved arena. It's solid-colored, not covered in crap, and has held up surprisingly well for what I paid. Yeah, on the surface I don't like their marketing gimmick, but every squid they convince to wear a helmet covered in plastic bat wings and chains and glowing rubber wangs subtracts one from the list of dead squids legislators can use as an excuse to shit on sport riders. =\

Isn't polycarbonate what bullet proof glass is made from?

Yes. That means it doesn't crush properly on impact absorbing the G forces. PolyCarbonate helmets usually score poorly on transferred G's testing (and almost always guarantee a concussion in a hard getoff).

(concussion < head split open) = a start.
On a similar note to this thread, I was watching TV and saw the new Subaru commercial that shows what is obviously touted as a white middle class couple driving down a street full of street racers. The voice over is talking about how their friends, who I can only assume are Biff and Muffy, are happy they chose a car that has the safety of all wheel drive.
At a red light, as they look cautiously around, the other Subaru tough-guy, racer types are staring at them and give them the thumbs up for driving their all wheel drive Subaru (cuz it's gritty and raceyable, I guess). The couple then has a cool little smile as they drive away because of their newfound "friendship" with the "bad crowd".
So even a non-squid company like Subaru is using the same marketing gimmick to draw boring, middle class life down into the streetz.
Fact is, the street life is "in". Well, at least appearing as if you're living that life is anyway.

Yep the glamour is only on TV, the reality is a lot less pleasurable

CAN CRUSHER
This looks interesting, but my opinion of Freddie has changed a bit in the last few years. It's still a good looking helmet, though, and my Arai is over 5 years old...

I like this new X-12, pretty nice graphics.
Unfortunately, my X-11 hits 5 years this month...so I'm reluctantly shopping.

I like it but I sure don't have $650 worth of like for it. I could buy three of my current scorpions, two extra face shields, and still have money left over for a burger.

I'm not a big fan of the red white and blue together, (nothing against our country, just not my favorite colors) but I like the graphics. Might take some ideas from that one.

I just heard something about that yesterday at the gym from a guy I know that use to live in that area. Something about a bunch of pissed off Italians that want to fight, right? Sorry.. every time I see that sort of stuff I think of Evil Knievel.

I went to my local Ducati shop over the weekend to pick up some spark plugs and saw this X-12: SHOEIHELMETS.COM BEST PRICES: SHOEI X-TWELVE STREAMLINER TC-4 FULL FACE HELMET
What a nice, high-quality helmet and I really liked the graphics. It's been quite a while since I've been that impressed by a helmet. Online pics really don't do it justice. Too bad they were asking 8 large for it. I'm all for supporting the local shop but they've got to be somewhat competitive. At that price, it just feels like gouging.
