I gotta say it takes a certain amount of confidence to name a helmet in a way that identifies the buyer as a moron.
Balls, even.

sort of like how kickass now means "goooo!"
and goooo really means wiiiin
and wiin really means you should consider a trackday cause you think you're all that but you're racing people who don't know they're being raced so they have no chance of winning.
Now you know why ICON wouldn't hire me but Icahn would.
so does this mean you're coming next week to 'represent' your hood?

The price they charge for some of their stuff, you'd have to be a moron to buy it. What's the old saying 'If the shoe (or in this case, helmet) fits, wear it"

Yeah, but whenever I'm out riding on the roads I see about 25 Harleys for every sport bike... Just sayin'

Seriously, though, my comment was really meant to be applied to both the HD and icon "lifestyle". Different angles but the marketing approaches, at their core, are identical by trying to sell a "hard lifestyle" with flash and very little substance. There are the true root elements that promote the stereotype or "images" (1%'ers, gangbangers, etc.) but my opinion would be that the gear and accessories are purchased moreso by those that wish to project those images rather than actually participate
I look at it as an alter-ego or weekend persona when an individual who may portray a corporate image in professional life feels they have to put on a costume (HD, sportbike, whateva) and get into another mindset to be the weekend badass. Maybe it's the other way around, I don't know.
Anyhow, I'm just making an observation - not trying to turn this into a HD bashing thread by any means. I would imagine that the true HD crowd looks upon the poseurs on cruisers much in the same way that the erudite track guys and ST mileage-rackers look upon the stunnas and icon fold.

I know, and it's hard to avoid placing a sharp stick in the big eye of Sauron - from a safe distance!
ICON is really aggressive with their marketing, and it appears to work. I personally don't care for the style and am evidently immune to the target appeal, but I guess at the end of the day they make a decent product for the dollar. I'd just as soon see someone buy a 'speed cretin' helmet and actually wear it. It would save their life and give me a huge laugh.
Every motorcycle and mc product wants to establish a brand identity and market like motherfuckers to all of the commonalities of their core customer base.
For Harley, that can be alternately American patriotism and romantic notions of the loner-outlaw. For Scorpion, it's obviously sex-starved men and younger guys who confuse anime with real life. ICON wants the urban culture hip-hop oriented buyers who aren't being marketed to by the other brands.

I'm sure you'll all agree that no matter what type of riding one chooses to participate in, wearing as much protective gear as possible is a good thing (even if it looks stupid/ugly).
People make fun of me for wearing my leathers on the street saying I look like a Power Ranger. I'd rather they make fun of me now than give me sympathy later if I hadn't been wearing them.

People that do that are either 1) non-Motorcyclists or 2) motorcyclists that are squids.
In fact, when people gave me sideways looks for wearing leathers on the street, I would respond by walking a little taller in their company; their mockery my own badge of honor. And I would even give them a little back to ponder by looking back at them with an obvious pity-type expression on my face for those poor souls trapped in their cage or worse, they being nothing more than a witless prisoner sitting atop their two wheeled machine without any real ability to actually pilot the thing as it was designed.

I just tell them the pavement doesn't care if its a race track or a street. Most people get it then.

Good point. An educator among us but they still look at you funny, am I right? Or maybe its just me, in that absurdly large suit of mine that cost a herd of Japanese cows their lives.

the funny looks come from random people if I just walk into a store. I don't talk to those people cause they aren't worth my time trying to explain it to.

I just tell 'em that it's more comfortable than a skin graft.
"Walking a bit taller" seems to be remarkably ineffective. Maybe that's a Nevada thing..
