ICON SPEED CRETIN $210
"Sometimes you just twist throttle, dump clutch, and go. No questions, no drama, no repercussions. Thats livin' Speed Cretin. All fink'd up with nowhere to go."
By the way, the definition of Cretin
–noun
1. One suffering from cretinism, congenital disease due to absence or deficiency of normal thyroid secretion, characterized by physical deformity, dwarfism, and mental retardation, and often by goiter.
2. a stupid, obtuse, or mentally defective person.
They'll sell a million of these.

Ahahaha. Yes. Yes they will.
Also on a disturbing note. Icon has a "Represent" line. If I'm not mistaken, isn't to "represent" on the street, slang for gang-bangin' (and I mean guns and shootouts, not pron).

I'll give them props for honesty in marketing.

I'll tell you - marketing geniuses. There's a huge market for this and they are capturing it with a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners attitude. And its working, very well. They are getting a lot more people into the sport. But are they the right people? I dunno. But its certainly not my style or even the style of many here...

Good point. No accounting for taste, or the lack thereof.

It can. But its really morphed into slang in the common vernacular for representing your group, region, city, affiliation, whatev, etc.
Back when I used to watch Squid ... err, SuperBikes on SPEED, they have several episodes that "represented" a few major cities across the US; NYC, Philly, LA, Atlanta, etc. This line from Icon is for that type of crowd.

It can but you'll see it used more as a way of saying who's who.
If you had a helmet with LV on it, you'd be representing Las Vegas. Doesn't have to be anything violent about it.
Now, if you're representing a gang, sure, there's probably some violence involved.

Especially if you're whitebread, because then you got no street cred so you gotta do more dirt to get the respect, even if you do got stacks.

its actually closer to #3, in that it is so overused that its lost its true meaning.
Lately its synonymous with the term "keeping it real" and we all know how "gangsta" that term is Keeping it real

It's bigger than that.
They're "the man". Anytime you pay money to "the man", they get it. Anytime you're hassled by "the man", they're behind it.

True, but have you seen the the Icon ads in the latest motorags regarding the "Represent" line? They aren't trying to casually say you are "representing the lollipop guild" (ala Urban Dictionary term #7), they are trying to draw an image of urban-territorial-thugism (i.e. gangsterism; violence). I mean were talking about Icon here. Just as their Cretin line is clearly aimed at that stunter/tweeker/bike-thief archetype crowd and the retards that think that image is "cool" (different target audience from the "Represent" line, but similar theory to achieve the sale of those ridiculous items).
As BobcatSig so aptly pointed out, they are marketing geniuses. And they are tapping into the male psyche because they know, down deep, most men urn (more so with young men) to be "tough-guys" or at the very least, seen by their peers as tough-guys. What better way to do so, with this particular target audience, than with their "Represent" line complete with its pseudo-gang imagery/connotations.
Anyway, point being, their graphics are horrible. And perhaps the scene they draw to the motorcycle universe is even more horrible. But they are EXCELLENT at marketing their products, regardless of what they mean or don't mean.

Yep, this says it all:
A command that provokes someone to make a symbol or sign identifying their gang affiliation.
Represent, mothafucka.

Now in stereo

Engineers say "Not so fast."

Btw, if they aren't trying to conjure gansterism, than I need to turn in my lollipop guild card membership:

They'd make a mint if they could sell bulletproof riding gear with the 50 cent jaw protector.

bust caps is just slang for kickass really, or at least thats what it's evolved into.
sort of like how kickass now means "goooo!"
and goooo really means wiiiin
and wiin really means you should consider a trackday cause you think you're all that but you're racing people who don't know they're being raced so they have no chance of winning.
Now you know why ICON wouldn't hire me but Icahn would.

wow. I was just reading through all the BS. They are indeed going hard with the marketing crap.

And to all the haters and nay-sayers - Icon does not support or condone any type of dog fighting. Never have, never will. Don't get it twisted.
So they dont support Michael Vick type actions but "if need be" they do support Plaxico??
You win MV.

What's scarier is they have the biggest multi-page ads in some of the latest rags. So it must be paying off for them...

Indeed. But I guess if it gets squids on the journey to wearing gear, it's a somewhat worthy effort? Maybe?
