I hear good things about the Pumas. At the end of last year I picked up a pair of A* Supertech Rs to replace my old Supertechs. They've made some nice improvements to them. So far, I like them a lot. My only complaint is that the rubber thingie on the top of the boot for the shifter no longer goes all the way to the end of the boot. I tend to shift with my toe, so I may need to add a piece of leather or something there. Won't be an issue for everyone.

The Pumas are very comfortable, and seem to offer great protection. The main reason I didn't get them is because I was concerned about the availability of replacement toe sliders. That was a big problem with my Oxtars (now TCX). I really like my Sidi Vertigo Corsas. The soles seem to hold up better than the Oxtars and Alpinestars I used previously.
I just got a pair of Sidi Vortice Air boots, I'll let you know more about them next week after I actually get a chance to ride with them...

Yup, if money's no object, they're the gold standard!

Yup, if your ankles are worth $1000, they're the gold standard.
That's what I read.

Haha, yup!!! I was thinking about the Evo Basic...very similar but machine molded plastic instead of handmade carbon fiber...but I feel pretty good about the Supertech's protection for a couple hundred less. Mostly.

I’ve yet to sustain the slightest injury to my lower extremities while wearing Sidi boots. And I’ve had my share of get-offs. The Race Vertabra I have were Sidi’s top of the line at the time and still pretty good. I value my body, but I think that many clams to protect your bones is a little over kill. Besides I have to by tires too.
I am currently wearing the SMX Plus by alpinestar and I LOVE THEM. Comfy and they don't ahve a bunch of "mid foot" tightening systems to get hung up on my rear sets. The soles are hardly showing any wear after around 20 track days on my Sato Rear sets and they are comfy enough that I also wear them to teach with Ottawa Safety Council which is 2 8 hours days of walking and demo'ing stuff on circus sized bikes.
Reasonably priced and I would buy another pair for sure.

And you also wear them to the races even if youre not riding.

A thousand bucks overkill? Have you ever been to physical therapy? The word "stretching" takes on a whole new meaning. My favorite part is the rolled towel, "you'll probably want to bite this".
My copays for the joint rebuilds I've had to pay for cost more than $1000 out of pocket, not to mention being broke for 6mos-1 yr, and "never right" again for life.
I had a racer friend who went feet first into bales and busted his ankle badly while still in his 20's. He was about as strong an advocate for Daytonas as you'd meet after that...

Should people buy the best gear they can afford? Yes. Are medical bills more expensive than safety gear? yes. Could Daytonas have prevented your example injuries?........
I'm not saying the Daytonas aren't good boots or that any other boot is better than they are. IMO the best gear is the gear you'll wear and that is gear normal wage earners can afford so, yeah...I think 1k is overkill, or perhaps more fittingly phrased, overpriced for a pair of boots. I can't pay 1k for boots so no matter how good they are they can't protect me. I'm sure the price is the reason I've never seen a pair at the track.

You just weren't looking, I know you've been on track with at least one pair.

I have a pair of these and really like them. I'm not sure if they are available in the US anymore.

They discontinued the color that I wanted so I got these
In other news, I have a VM from a stormtrooper that I beat up last week. He wants his boots back.
I've only had them on for a quick check out w/ the leathers. Color me impressed. There is an internal neoprene boot that easily slides overtop of my leathers. I was concerned b/c I've had trouble getting boots over my leathers on my last two pairs. These are comfortable, but also feel like they'll be very protective. For the price, I'm pretty happy. Hope I don't crash them.

Thread jack over.
I was wearing a pair last week, but they are so stiff that I alternated the sessions with the more comfortable but definitely less protective A -Stars.
Hard to 'break in' a pair of boots that are made essentially out of carbon fiber. And I got them new on ebay for about 300 bucks for that very reason.

You have to get used to them. I never found them uncomfortable though.
Ride in dirtbike boots for a while and they'll feel very flexible...

Has anyone bought that Puma boots yet? If so, whay do you think? I was looking at a pair, but I love the A* I have and was thinking of buying another pair.

See post #21. I've not ridden in them yet, but I think they're going to be better than the Tecnic Speedstar's they're replacing. And I loved those.
I have the pumas. The first set broke on me on the 3rd day of use. I called up the distributor and had a new set 2 days later. Customer service was good. Overall I like them. They are a pain to get on and off, so I wouldn't use them for daily riding but for the track they are great.
I wish I could find another deal like I did for the Gaernes I have now - they're about worn out and not all power ranger-ish flashy.
Anyone else have problems getting Sidi's to fit? I haven't tried any on in a few years, but they used to be terrible for my feet. I wear regular size 11 running shoes, so I don't understand the problem there.
