Frogg Toggs - Road Toad Raingear

Just got some to keep in the luggage and so far I'm impressed. Not with their watertightness but with the general build quality and forethought. I think whoever designs this stuff has maybe actually ridden a motorcycle in the rain, amazing!

i'll have to update this once I've actually gotten wet with the things...but for now, they are interesting. The first actual breathable rainsuit I've ever had. I just sat here wearing the thing for the past 2 hours and its just like lounging around in some shorts, next time I'll try wearing something underneath it too to see if that changes anything

Now that you have that pleasant visual...

This is the suit I got:
    frogg toggs - Choose Product

I got it from compacc for 55$ though instead of the 70$ + S&H.

So now you know, and I'll tell you more when I know more

Why wait for the rain to come? Drive through a car wash.

The GS and a coin operated "no touch" washer and you will know how they work without risking it in the middle of a trip or commut to an important meeting.

I've heard various things on how they hold up to the wind buffeting while riding. Hearing stories of how the disintegrate on rides. That may be early (or cheaper version) information because I have not heard in a few years, and the one person I knew who liked them used them only on slow commute rides. It would be very interesting to get a real first hand report. So please post up your experience on a longer ride ... if and when you get caught in the rain that is.

I can see how people might think they are disposable or get destroyed. The fabric seems like some sort of kimtex stuff like they use for car covers. It's perfectly fine as is but if you get it too big or too small sized, the whipping or stress of the fabric could lead to failure of it, so that makes sense.

That said, I think it should be ok...it is seamed/bonded together pretty well. I don't like carwashes cause it's too much like cleaning the bike

I am sure I'll have an opportunity to explain it's functionality shortly, no worries this is new england

I bought a set of Frogg Toggs at the Honda Hoot in 2001 back when they had 2 models. The bib/pullover combo and the pant/zipup combo. I opted for the pant zipup method and loved them. I purposely bought them where the jacket fit snug over my Speedmaster, then reinforced the underside with duct tape where my shoulder vents would rub. Still got slight flapping, but you get used to it. My biggest gripe was the jacket wanted to ride up like a tshirt on a squid, but the fit kept that to a minimum. They kept me real dry, only getting a little water through the zipper in a down pour, and a sprinkle down the neck when I turned my head. They are good stuff!

The new version (road toad) that I have is definitely not going to ride up, they have at least a 1" band of elastic at the bottom and at the sleeves too.

It also has a 'riding hood' integrated into it. So yes, if you got the suit in Red and size Small it would be little red riding hood, which is why I got 2XL and Gray but either way it is designed to fit under your helmet and not let water down your neck, all while not being an odd taut piece of fabric under the helmet.

    Anyways...

I have been using the standard Frogg Togg 2 piece suit since 2005. I have been very pleased with it. Flapping is noticeable, but not that irratating. The top does tend to ride up, glad to hear they have modified it for moto use.

I got some water intrusion at the neck if I didn't pull the top of the zipper area up and tuck it under my helmet chinstrap. The hood works well under a helmet in the intense downpour stuff. The breathability of these things makes them bearable even in our heavy/hot summer deluges.

As far as durability, they have done well. No tearing at all. Course I do tend to ride rather short distances at a sedate pace... Only issue I have with my orginal suit with many miles of use was self inflicted. It was looking pretty grungy, so I washed as the label directed. It seems like it is not as water proof now. Probablly could Scotchguard it, but this may be an opportunity to check out the Road Toad.

Oh yeah, they will melt pretty easily on hot exhaust.
