Does the dark smoke visor have a UV blocking coating? If not, you're actually opening your pupils and letting more of that garbage into your eye holes. Learned that in flight school. Believe the recommended max shade without UV block is 15% (right about the light smoke range).

I think that fits into the "changing a lightbulb" thread...
Most lenses and visors are rated in "transmissable light" with 15% falling in the very dark range Now we're really into the lightbulb thread.

Just checked my dark Smith lenses are 15%, my RC30 are 30%, and my yellow are 68%.

My snow goggles are actually RC36 rated at 36%.

Interesting lens choices and hype about the different colors.

Although I think you're onto something with the non-coated dark visors. I'll have to check my visors data. I know my sunglasses and ski goggles have UV protection so I'm not worried there.

You know what I meaned .

IIRC, the other issue with too-dark a shade (or too little transmissable light) is that the eyes fatigue over time from having the pupils so heavily dilated to compensate from the reduced light reaching them.

My Dragon goggles are listed as 75-80% transmission.

Now we just need to create a Visors forum and I can move this to it.

I'm just a moderator, you'll have to find an admin to do that.

Like the Scorpion so far, got it this am and took it for a ride tonight. I also mistakenly bought it with a LIGHT smoke shield...so now I really am following your word, it's making me a little nervous

Does your Scorpion smell like chocolate on the inside? Mine still does and it's over a year old. I thought I was just weird but noticed an online review that said the same thing.

That is very interesting Seamus, I would be interested to know.

Just to be on the safe side, my new EXO-700 has a light and a dark smoke shield, I will be rolling with the light smoke tomorrow

I hadn't noticed but maybe that's why I'm always hungry after riding.
