So while I have not ceased in my 'why do I need a roadcrafter' , I now have something that is alot cheaper and will clue me in if I love/hate the suit thing. If I hate it, I am sure someone will give me 150$ for a worn once 2XL suit

You need a Roadcrafter so you can conform in a non-conformist way

edit: Honestly, after having the Phantom for a while, my next purchase will be a two piece. I'll still keep the Phantom one-piece as a good touring suit but for day-to-day stuff I think I'd like the convenience of a two-piece suit. First Gear makes some nice stuff.

I am so good at spending other people's money. But I think SSG repaid me in kind with that one potentially spending some of mine.

So my fieldsheer 2xl jacket and XL pants I practically swim in. I order a 2XL suit and it won't even begin to zip up. I could lose 50# but it's definitely too narrow for my general structure. Of course I go to check the site and they have small and medium left, damn them!

I'm pissed because this is a pretty nice suit! Now I get to find out what their return policies are

RE - I need you to find me another smoking deal on this thing in 3XL???

I like the internetz...I'll post up when it comes in. I like what I see from the current suit though...appears pretty weathertight, but also with decently placed vents, a nice zip out liner, removable rain collar, etc.

If anyone is reading this and wants the last 2XL that I am about to send back to MCS, let me know tonight. It's probably 220$ shipped (which is about what it will cost ya from the other place if they have it in 2xl).

I've had the same 1 piece roadcrafter since 2001, 90% of the time I ride on the road. Easy on, easy off, totally worth it... I feel protected all the time.

I can open it up in the summer and its cool. I can close it up in the winter and its impenetrable.

Get one.

Dude, you weren't kidding

Ok admittedly, I accidentally gave them the mrs. email address so who knows what emails have/haven't occurred here, but I did login to their site and check the order status and it is "drop shipped".

So...I guess that does not entitle me to tracking information?

I paid the $$ for some express crap, so I am really hoping its there today when I get home. If not, well...I'll bitch here some more.

My stuff made it, but it was a gift, so I couldn't tell you if it was delayed or anything.

FYI: My suit arrived here last Wednesday, but rushing out the door I tossed it in the house and left. Finally tried it on the other night and it fits well. I don't know if I am just a walrus but the 3XL fits on me like anything else 2XL I own. .

I did have a chance to take it out for a few today and I can definitely say it is not the suit for warmer weather riding. It has some ventilation, but on the GS those areas are hidden by the windscreen in any position, so really - there aint alot of airflow going on for me. Removing the liners does help with getting cool of course (as I had my liners out today in 60 degree weather) and was quite comfy. I see this as a 65% of the time suit, at least I hope it to be . For the May-August months it may not be adviseable, but for other times of the year it looks like it will do nicely. It also looks pretty damn impervious to rain as well.

This is my first full (textile) suit and I must say I'm definitely a fan of the suit thing. It is step-in and step-out, and no jacket-to-pant hassles. This will be something repeated in the future for the summer months...probably something lighter though if I can find it. The 'stich Darien stuff seems to be regarded for warm weather riding (as noted earlier in this thread) and it can be zipped together (and left that way) so that will probably be phase 2.

For now though, I have my "damn its raining and I refuse to take the cage" and the suit that is pretty much for anything I encounter while out on the road.

Love the external pockets...
Love the fit on the bike...
Build quality is pretty good...
Good feature set using reflective materials...

Ok thats all for now, I am sure I'll ramble more as I get some experience with it.

Does it have pit zips and a rear back vent?

The back vent works particularly well on the Roadcrafter. I wear mine hot or cold...

When I picked up some new hiking boots last week I just stepped in and zipped up. Even the guys in the shoe shop were impressed. The one piece is ultra convenient.

No pit zips, two waterproof chest zips with mesh lining behind them. Two shoulderblade vents is all I could find.

The legs do zip up to the thigh and the front zips down to my knee I think. It does take some getting used to. For some reason I just decided to drive in today though rather than sport it. I think it needs more miles before I can negotiate traffic with it....or something.

those pants actually look much better than other mesh stuff I've seen. They aren't fully mesh. just in some places. but on the other hand I think I've worn my A* mesh jacket once in the past 2 years, preferring to go with full leathers.

I know I've only worn my mesh once since getting my A-stars leather. I can't see myself ever wearing mesh again but I still need some waterproof pants to match my touring jacket.
