...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG
I just couldn't think of where you would go for something like that but now that you say that I think I can picture the stuff like that there on an isle I don't frequent very often.
Do you think I could use aluminum bar like that and get the necessary bends without weakening it too much?

Look in the phone book under "metal suppliers." That is probly plainold Hot Rolled steel, probaly 1/8, 3/16 or 1/4 thick in whatever width you want, that looks like 1".
If you heat it first, there shouldn't be a problem. Aluminum gets work hardened. if you don't crack it initially, it should be fine. Is welding involved?

There shouldn't need to be any welding to get an initial set-up built. I'll probably mock it up first using cardboard or something then see what it will take to get it done with steel or aluminum.

+1. And if you're nice, you might be able to pick through some scraps.

Okay now, don't laugh...project "poorboy GS" is underway. Since the pics were taken I "radiused" all the corners on the bracket. I still need a couple washers and a can of spray paint.
It won't ever carry huge loads but with the box and a rear rack I should be ready for a road trip.
