Shouldn't we port over the discussion(s) about Seamus' recent crash and his new found "love" for A-stars?

I've always worn Helds, most recently the Galaxy. I don't think they make the Galaxy any longer, and I have 2 pr in good shape, but when it's time to buy, I'd look at them again.

My roo-hide teknics fell apart after 1 season... I'll be shopping soon. Might bite the bullet and try Helds.

Seamus must have gotten a good batch as I can't keep fingers in mine... maybe it's his small lady like hands? hahaha

I've gone through 2 sets of their "top of the line" gloves and have blown out fingers in in all but 4 fingers.

Stay the hell away from Shift Racing gloves. Terrible quality and it's the last time I order anything like that online . The Shift jacket I bought though is still awesome.

I've got more gloves than I can shake a stick at, because you can never have too many. I've had all kinds over the years, Z's, Teknic, Olympia, etc. But lately I've really felt good in my Helds. Nice, comfortable, still relatively protective gloves. Good stuff.

Yep mine were their top line kevlar ones... The fingers didn't go but the palms wore out of them.

The A-Stars SP2s I had before were a way better mitt.

Palms have worn awesome and the gloves themselves are actually still in REALLY good shape, I just can't seem to keep the fingers from ending up looking like they belong to someone on a harley...

Interesting to hear about the A-stars being so shotty.

I have a pair of the GP Pro's and I've only crashed on them once. It was a low side where the front lost grip on a rough patch and tucked. My suit (also A-stars) took the brunt of it. The gloves took some hits in the key areas where they have extra plastic reinforcements - including the cuff. The crash was at about 65 and they held up flawlessly.

So I'm surprised to hear that they aren't so popular. I realize that they are not repairable. But one thing I remember about gloves is that sweat will and can erode the integrity of the leather and its stitching. Is it possible that these gloves that we're talking about were heavily worn and never cleaned and therefore were more susceptible to failure?

A good friend of mine had a pair of those Icon TiMax TRX gauntlets ... absolute piles of warmed over shit. The exploded on impact and gave him some pretty good scars. But that's about par for the course with Icon.

Teknic is made from rat-skin. (and I hope that doesn't bite me as I've been wearing a pair lately)

Held.

Let me know when you guys want the thread closed.

I've crashed in Joe Rocket Speedmaster and Razor gloves and they've held up so I'll be going back. The Speedmaster offers good protection without hurting my knuckles and are probably my next purchase to start the 2009 season.

Can I post more pictures now?

Been happy with my Teknic gloves, but doing a search looks like they are hard to find.

Did they go out of business?

Don't think so. They had a truck for demoing last time at the track.

I love my Cortech Addrenaline's. They had the highest rating in Sport Rider a few months back for quality, comfort, protection, and price. The are made of Sheep. I will definitely buy another pair. I'm sure there are other gloves equally as good.

Held, if I can get my size, are my next purchase for gloves.

I'm not going to bash A* any more than I already did other than to say I'm sorely disappointed in them.

Saw good reviews on the Cortech Adrenaline gloves and tried some on at the Indy Moto GP - veddy nice.

Decent pricepoint, too, for a top-end glove... around $99. I have a feeling I'll be sportin' some in the spring.

You can get them on ebay new. The main dealer of them who is offering "best offer" ..he will do $83 although I kept watching and bid on mine, winning the bid at $54 new.

Held Phantom. I've crashed them and did receive an open dislocation of my pinky, but I don't blame the glove. I'm still wearing the same pair, I'd buy them again, and when I need another pair I'll likely be back to them.

If you're a racer SBTG will probably work w/ you on the price.

My alpinestars SP-1s are okay...they held up for 3 seasons just fine, but even broken in they weren't that comfortable unless I had already been wearing them for a half hour or more. I wouldn't buy them again solely for how long they took to break in (months, and like I said they still don't really feel totally broken in).

Anyone have experience with Komodo gloves? They look good and are priced attractively when compared to A-stars, Held, etc.

on Held ... they are Not Officially available in Oz... I only found out about them via a post on this board 18mths ago...

Due to an accident when i was young one hand is much smaller than the other, having contacted all the major glove manufacturers (A/Stars, Dainese, Shift etc) no one has been able to help.

One e-mail to Held and they tell me they can make a set of custom gloves for me, the gloves arrived 6 weeks ago and fit & finish are great. (pretty good when you know my hands & me never left Oz!)

Cost was 30% above 'normal' price.

I really like my A-stars GP-Pro's. Comfortable and look good but I haven't crashed them so I guess I can't really say anything about durability.

I have one really old pair of the original Held Galaxys with the yellow carbon on the knuckles. They are in excellent shape, they must be 6 years old. I use them on the street and the newer ones on the track. My next set will be the Phantoms.
