I *might* have gotten a great deal on a pair of Daytona Security Evo Roadracing Boots

When Baketech-in-exile crashed at Putnam a few years ago, he broke his foot pretty severely and painfully. And I'm pretty sure he was wearing the same model of boot I have now, Alpinestars SM-X - or maybe it was the Sidi boot that's pretty damned close.

Since then, I've been investigating other boots of a higher caliber, like the Sidi Vertebra that saved maxib's reputation - After breaking his left ankle once, he never would have heard the end of it had he done so again- in exactly the same way.

Of course, there is the paragon of foot-protection, The Imelda Marcos autograph model Daytona Security Evo, which wraps a replaceable kangaroo-hide boot around a carbon-kevlar shell.

I've read nothing but great things about this boot, but it's so expensive that the reviewers almost never tell you exactly how much it costs- they refer to it as "a couple weeks worth of takehome pay" or something cute.

As it turns out, they list for about 950 US frickin' dollars. But that's for two boots.

So I'm screwing around on ebay yesterday, idly searching for boots in my size, and up pops a set of these for $350.00. New. Black. The guy has a set for racing and got another pair for sport touring and decided they're not appropriate for walking around in. Also, the pair he has is never going to wear out, since every piece ( including the ceramic sliders) is replacable. So he's trying to sell them, but his feet are so small that he has a very limited market.

So I just paypalled him for the 350 plus 15 for shipping. If they don't fit, he'll refund all but the shipping.

So we'll see in about a week if I got the deal of the century or not.

No style points there. I hope they protect better than they look.

Just for info, I had the SMX+ boots on when I acrobatically jumped T7 and did fairly well in mine.....just some bruising on the heels of my feet.

Awesome, I own them and they are the best. Amazing deal, I paid $800!

Yeah, I'm such a well-known fashion plate...

These boots are reputed to be underneath the otherwise-branded coverings of many famous roadracers.

Come clean, they were his kids. The kid flunked out of third grade so dad took his bike away and the poor child doesn't need his boots now.

Nice find CBRVFR! I looked into those as well, but just couldn't do the cost at retail. I'd like to hear more of your thoughts on these boots once you've had a chance to wear them.

Re: I *might* have gotten a great deal on a pair of Daytona Security Evo Roadracing B

Great find, they are awesome boots. I don't have 'em, but HG has the less expensive version, the Evo Basics. They're made very similar, with the replaceable outer shell, but the inside hard boot is machine made plastic instead of the hand-made carbon fiber that the Securities have.
I have the Alpinestar Supertechs, and the hard boot in them seems to be almost as good, but not quite.

I'm tracking these boots through that international beau ideal of efficiency, the Canada Post -

They were sent on 3/30 "Expedited US"

It's now the 9th and they've made their way from Toronto to Mississauga

I'm afraid somebody is wearing them as they walk slowly toward the border..

C'mon guys, at least walk faster!

No great deal seems to come without bullshit like this.

Hang in there, it'll be worth it.

Anticipation makes it sweeter in the end ... right

Besides, you couldn't wear them now anyway. Truck is probably stuck in the snow somewhere.

I watch one of my packages from the states sit in the "Sorting Warehouse" for two weeks Then they call me to tell me because of the labour market they can not do residential deliveries and that I need to pick it up between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm Monday to Friday ( I leave for work at 5:30 am and get home at 6:30 pm)

April 16. They're STILL in Mississauga according to Canada Post. (mailed "expedited" on March 31 - with a supposed 5-6 working day lead time to the US. )
Think they're Calgary fans or something?

They must be more comfortable than the government issued boots they make the mail people wear ... you may never get them

Did you take into account the exchange rate when calculating shipping times?

Re: I *might* have gotten a great deal on a pair of Daytona Security Evo Roadracing B

OK, 20 days later the boots arrive at my door.

They are brand new and in perfect shape, as advertised. The foot protection is so comprehensive that I'm sure you could kick a Canadian postal worker in the nuts all day long in complete and utter comfort.

I'd be willing to test that out, by the way.

They fit well, though my thick samurai calves are at the limit of the zipper's tolerance. It'll stretch a bit, I'm sure.

I'll bring both pairs of boots and ride them this weekend. -I sat on my VFR to see how they felt on a bike. Your foot is so encased in the protective shell that the feel of the shifter and brake seems diminished. It's not a huge issue; I won't be sending them back.

LTL- did that take some getting used to?

Overall, I definitely got a sweeeeeeeet deal.

I don't remember doing anything to deserve it, either.

Awesome, glad they made it.

Yes, I looked like a dweeb missing shifts my first session or two, and I had to move my shift lever up a bit. But they're not as bad as dirtbike boots.

Also, if you go out and find the boot pinching you in the front of your foot when you get in a tuck, it is probably because you put the front plate on too low, move it up.
