Teknic Violator Gloves and Speedstar Boots - First Impressions

First time buying track gear so money was a factor. Gloves were $89 and the boots were $149. The violator is their bottom for track gear while the speedstar I believe is their top of the line.

Boots first. Well they look kind of bulky. Made from Kangaroo hide, they have the outer boot and the inner "shell". Its made from Fiberglass (gives it the strength and stretchy canvas material, spandex, etc. Its kind of hard for my big butt to get over the lace up the inner shell. Seems to me after some use, the hinge may wear out needing replacement. It does move freely enough. It does have inner pull tabs so you can grab and slip into them easier.

The main boot has 2 zippers on each side and a "ratchet" on the back. Not really a ratchet because you can't work the action to get a better fit. I suspect over time that this will wear out. It has replaceable sliders on the toe and looks to have good protection.

Gloves: Violator. Nice glove. No "karate chop" protection. You know when you chop a 2x4 the area on the side of your hand.. yeah, no protection. Has a plastic ram air section over the knuckles and plenty of ventalation. Nice that it has two velcro areas over the wrist. One is to tighten down, the other is to secure that strap. Then you have the forearm strap area. Very good velcro.

Fit: They fit nice. I wear a Large in a street Alipinestar glove. This set is a medium. I'm sure they'll stretch but I think they feel better than my street gloves. I get restriction in the thumb areas on the alpine stars. This glove has good leather everywhere but very little extra padding in the palm. Plenty of protection over the top area of the fingers, knuckles... etc. Good glove, I'd buy it again.

Thanks for the info! For what it's worth, I've always had good experiences with Teknic stuff.

I'm sending the boots back. They felt to much like moon boots when walking. The inner bootie supplies all the strength and support. While you don't slide around, I'm sure after some break in, you probably would. Also didn't seem to have a good amount of grip on the pegs from the little testing I did with the bike up on the stand.

I'm trading them for Alpine Stars SM-X Plus boots.

The gloves, only thing I don't like is that there is an annoying seam in each of the finger tips. I checked my alpine stars street gloves and they have it as well. Maybe I'll beat it down with use.

I have an older model Speedstar boot. I put the inner boot on beneath my leathers, then zip up the leathers, put the boot over that. Works well.

Also, that ain't fiberglass dude. That's carbon fiber.

I do something similar with my boots. They take a bit to get on and adjusted right, but they seem to work pretty good, though I haven't truly "tested" them yet. Got mine on a closeout at the bike show for a good price, so I thought I would give them a try. Not a good everyday boot because of the time to get in and out. Not having all of the stuff on the outside of the boot makes them less prone to catching on things, like some have complained of some of the more complex boots on certain bikes. I'll probably try something else in the future, but I'm not disappointed in them.

Oh, and carbon is cool
