Re: What brand of gear do you own?

Well I'm the forum newb so I shall throw my 2 cents in here.

    Helmet
Shoei RF1000 Duhamel TC5 (this is the black base with colored dragons)
I really like this helmet. Fits me perfect, but it sure is hard because I'm always looking for others (would like to have a second) and I can't ever find ones that fit as well. Haven't tried on the X-11 or any Arais or Suomys though as I never run across them (I'd like to check out Suomys sometime)

    Jacket
    A* TZ-1 Red/Black/White
When I was but a wee motorcyclist a few years back in between the MSF and actually getting a bike I saw this in a magazine and liked the style. After I found one in a store that was the right size I liked the fit and look and the heft of it. I have worn this jacket in as low as 17 deg F in the winter and as high as 125 deg F in the summer (that's the high desert for you) and SURVIVED.

    Gloves
    A* SP2 2005 Red/Black/White
I have to have me some carbon fiber somewhere. Before these I wore shorty A* gloves. These are much more secure feeling and help keep the cold out in the winter.

    Boots
    A* SMX-R Solid black
I picked these up last year in Monterey while I was there @ NPS for business. Prior to that I was wearing the A* Ridge waterproof touring boot. The velcro on the damn things always was coming undone, so I decided my next pair would be zip/buckle closure, and these boots are both, with the added benefit of offering a lot more protection, but the expense of not being able to walk around in them all day (I have once when I was forced but it was not an experience I'd like to repeat. On the bike though? Heaven).

    Pants
    Fieldsheer Overpants
Normally I just wear jeans. My fiancée hates that though. She wants me to get a set of Kevlar pants. But that's a great deal of money. So I wear the overpants. But really they are more to keep me warm in the winter than anything else. Eventually I'll get the Kevlar pants or some Draggin' Jeans. Hopefully before I would have needed them if you catch my drift.

    Back Protector
A* that came with my jacket
I know some of you will balk at my not having a higher end back protector than what came in the pocket in my jacket but it hasn't been a priority for me. I've looked and will likely end up with the A* higher end one that goes in the jacket pocket. One of the salesfolks at Cycle Gear in Palmdale wanted me to get the Dainese slip-in protector but it was really small, regardless of how wonderful it is, and I am not (a small person, that is - I am in fact wonderful ).

Good gear, but you should definitely add pants to the mix. Jeans don't hold up well at all in a crash. Get the leather pants that will zip onto your jacket.

Re: What brand of gear do you own?

Helmet: Arai Quantum. Fits best for my size and shape head, which is to say cue ballish.

Leathers: Bates custom two-piece full zip for street and track. Crash tested well twice. Off-season repair turnaround time good.

    Back protector: Bohn

Gloves: TaiChi-very nicely made and fit well (got a deal at Kneedraggers) Only problem is that my clutch and throttle action seems to be in slow motion for some reason. Have had A* and Held both of which crash tested well.

Boots: A* SMX-plus. Fit well but can't put down the sidestand without knocking it into gear. However, Abtech's phobia of sidestands will render that issue moot this year. Sidi Strada Evo Tepor boots for touring/office wear. Very nice and don't make squeaky sounds walking around the office. Sidi's tend to be narrower than other brands though.

Yeah I know I definitely need to get some real pants. It's on my list for this summer. Do any of you all have recommendations on what to get? I was going to get a set of custom Kevlar pants from Motoport (Product Specifications) but I still wonder if there is better, and of course there's always the leather/textile/Kevlar controversy...I ride in as much as 120F so I think that leaves leather out for me for pants.

Oh and I forgot to my list the Respro Foggy. It's a mask that velcros into the front of your helmet and form fits around your nose and cheeks - makes it impossible to fog up your visor that way. I think it's great.

I get what you mean phobos. I grew up right over the Tehachapi mountains from you in B-town. It gets hot...leather is out of the question. I'm looking for some good riding pants that don't make me look like Freddie Mercury.

Does that mean no more Karaoke covers of "Bohemian Rapsody" and "We are the Champions"?

All kidding aside Lee - I really DO like Queen and their dearly departed flamboyant lead singer! R.I.P. Freddie.

Re: What brand of gear do you own?

    Helmet: Shoei RF-1000

Everyday Jackets: Joe Rocket 2 blk/red, Joe Rocket Reactor (blk/red mesh/leather).

Riding Gloves: Alpinestars SP2. Got them broken in and they fit like..well..a glove.
Everyday gloves: Teknic Chicane. Decent padding and will take a fall nicely.

Riding Boots: Alpinestars SMX3. I only wear them on mid/long rides.
Everyday boots: Joe Rocket Phoenix padded riding shoes.

Leather Suit: AGV Apache 2pc. Very nice suit, bought in 2002 and has been holding up great! Pants are a little large, but then again, I don't do alot of walking in them and they look good when I'm on the bike.
Undersuit: Nike Coolmax black 2pc (long sleeve/long pants). It's skin tight and keeps me comfy under my leathers.

I'm looking to get a pair of everyday pants (as I wear jeans), but am unsure what to get. Time to go surfing for gear.
