Gaerne G-RS Boots - thoughts, opions?
I've had several pair of boots with varying degrees of sucess.
I first had a pair of Oxtar Ti Evo's that were plenty wide enough for my hobbit feet. But they were too long and they had no internal lacing system, so my ankle would come up while leaned over. So I sold 'em.
Currently, I have a beat up set of A* SMX-Plus boots that fit great, which is odd since A*'s typically fit narrow. But for their price point, I feel like they could be better. The internal lacing system is a god-send as it gives me the fit I need.
My question(s) is this: Who has used/ridden Gaerne boots?
I know they are Italian, so my hope is that their quality is on par with other Italian manufacturers.
How do the fit? Without an internal (or external lacing system), does one's ankle slide around? And how have they held up in crash situations?
Thanks!!

I've had a pair of Gaerne's for the past few years and love them. Fit is good and my ankle doesn't slide, quality has been excellent and they have held up well for about 15,000 miles (approx.).
I don't remember what model I have but these have no laces but zip up halfway and are secured over the zipper with velcro.
No complaints and I would buy them all over again. Luckily, I can't comment on crash protection but I feel very protected with them on.
I only ride street and these aren't the full-on racing editions. They aren't exactly comfortable for walking long distances but I haven't found a good, protective boot that is.
I look forward to many more miles in these.

Sounds like you have the G-RW's like I do.
I use the G-RW's as street boots and my Sidi's as track boots. The Gaerne's are wider and more comfortable than the Sidi's. I've had days of hundred plus miles and walked around for hours in them and was completely comfortable.
I was wearing them in the lowside that also crash tested my Cortech jacket. Came out of it nicely.
About a year, and 8,ooo miles, so far with little non-crash wear to show for it. When these finally wear out, I'll be looking at Gaerne's offerings first.

Those look familiar - I think I have the previous generation, though.

Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it.
I have wide foot, so hearing that Gaerne makes a wider boot really helps. From my research, I doubt I'll find an inner lacing system. Nonetheless, great info.

the oxtar reps have an internal lace up in them. I just found that I ran through them WAY too fast.
I am currently using the a* smx plus and I LOVE THEM... hold up great and they are VERY comfy.
See you at GRATTAN

My SMX+ saved my ankle, I wouldn't hesitate to get another pair.
