Icon Primer Tankbag

I know Icon stuff is usually a touchy subject due to the stunna appeal and the like but has anybody used, seen or have an opinion on the Icon Primer tank bag?

Does the F1 have a metal tank?

No experience with the Primer but used the Urban Tank Bag for 2+ years and it worked great. Including a thousand mile trip overstuffed so the magnets couldn't really grab the RR tank.

Usually, only the two front magnets held due to the shape of the tank and tank cover but even with just those two, it did well enough to not replace it.

I have the JR Manta tank bag and have been happy with it. It looks to be a similar product and similar price. The Icon looks like it has a little more room and slightly upgraded features over the Manta but the Manta is low profile and looks pretty good.

Keep in mind, all bags that sit on the tank will eventually scratch the paint.

I don't have any identifiable scratches from mine but I am VERY careful when I stick it down to put down one magnet at a time and then make sure that I don't readjust or let it slide as I stick it down. It is also not anywhere near a daily use item. I probably only average one trip a month with it.

Yes. Dust, grit, etc...can get between the rubber and the tank. It will act like fine sand paper. It's worse on dark tanks.

Cleaning the bag often and waxing the tank will help, but not eliminate the problem.

Mine didn't do visible scratches, just normal wear of the clearcoat. Not any different than my pant legs did to the sides of the tank. In extended high temp use (over 90F), I did have to rub some of the rubber compound off the tank though. Not much more effort than a cloth and some WD40 though.

I was very careful not to set the bag down anywhere the tank contacting surface would pick up extra dirt and crap and it did fine. ICON's choice of material was pretty good in this aspect as it's soft yet not slippery so it stays put pretty good. At high autobahn speeds in Germany (120mph+ ), the Urban Tankbag had a tendency to let go if I got hit with a good sidewind (common in Germany) but I still think that's because it was really only held down by the front two magnets on the 1000RR. Can't really complain about that.

Mine is a light colored tank, always waxed, and the tankbag is kept very clean so all the right factors are in my favor. I also always lightly dust my tank before I put the bag on just as an extra precaution.
