Customize your Arai RX7
I like my RX7's but one has always been a shade loose when at full burn at the track (120+) Well Arai now has an online parts department. Just getting built and kind of hard to use and get to but it is there. So I decided to order a new shield cover and cheek pads. The cover is for my Blue Tommy Gun that I use on the street. Well you can pick a RX-7 Corsair easily enough but then you get a list of somewhat incoherent parts. Finally I decide a SAJ-Holder/POD Set is what I want (a diagram with names or numbers would be a nice addition). I also ordered new cheek pads for my other helmet. The original pads in a XL are 25MM so I got 2 30's. The order came fairly quick but only has my cheek pads. Apparently the cover is on backorder. I installed them and headed to Barber (bringing the originals just in case). Well I was a bit worried that it would be to snug but decided to do the morning session and see if they would break in. By days end the helmet was PERFECT
So this is a nice feature as many dealers will not have the stuff needed to do your helmet and may not be willing to order them. Now the downsides. When you order you do not get a total with shipping, this is a major complaint on poor internet sites (though on arrival shipping was reasonable). The site need a LOT of upgrading to be more user friendly (and find able). When I ordered they sent a notice that the order was received and notice would be sent at ship time. I got the package a day before that notice. No indication of backorder nor time said backorder will be resolved I wish I could give this a 4 hooves up due to the ability to customize your helmet more easily but at this time I can only go

I've worn Shoei for years because they seem to fit me a little better than Arais have. The XL RX-7 was always kinda big, and the L RX-7 was too tight. So I just stayed away from them. But I just bought an Arai because of the ability to swap out the headliner -something I just found out that Arai offers. I've found that my new RX-7 breathes even better and fogs less than my X-11s do.
I went from the stock 7 mm headliner on the XL to a 12 mm, as well as 35mm pads in the cheeks rather than the 25mm. Nice and snug! |

I wore Shoei for years too but had to switch to Arai b/c of fit. I still love my RF, but it's too old to wear.
Overall, I'm disappointed in the build quality of my (overpriced) RX-7 Corsair. - The visor does not lock in any up position and constantly closes by itself. - The shield change system is extremely poor and WILL break if you change them often. - Some of the plastic already seems to be getting brittle. - The upper breath guard is loose and constantly comes out of place. - The lower chin guard is a nice feature, but it feels like it is only a matter of time until it breaks. The two huge pluses for Arai: - Excellent customer service. - Excellent fit to the shape of my head.
