Custom Leather Suit Mfgs?

Kicking around the idea of having a 1pc custom suit made. And I want to check out as many manufacturers as possible before deciding. Right now, I'm aware of the obvious ones, Vanson, Bates, Z Custom, Syed, and from reading on this forum I found out about Barnacle Bill.

Am I missing any that I should look into? And should I avoid any of those I listed? Purpose of the suit will be for trackdays. I already have a Joe Rocket 2 pc suit, but I want something that is custom fitted and has more armor in it.

(Btw, off the rack doesnt really work for me. I'm 6'3" 275 lbs)

Thanks folks!

Re: Custom Leather Suit Mfgs?

You are missing a couple I can think of immediately.

The first is Zoomi in San Jose. This is who made my suit. DO NOT USE this asshole.

The second is Helimot, also in San Jose. Extremely high quality, leading and innovative features, but spendy and slow.

If I was going to do it again, Z-Custom or Helimot, depending on where I lived in Cali. Since I live very close to HB, I'd probably do Z if I got a suit again anytime soon.

Ask for Diane at Z-Custom. Great service.

Re: Custom Leather Suit Mfgs?

Syed used to make decent suits, but they increased their business and the quality went down the toilet.

I have had excellent results with Z Custom.

Just because he misunderstood when you said you had 'broad shoulders,' and cut the suit for a guy with 'a broad's shoulders?' Coulda happened to anyone..

Re: Custom Leather Suit Mfgs?

I'm laughing and ranting at the same time...

And then when you go back to get it fixed and he says, "I almost made it tighter"...

That was what really pissed me off, not that it didn't fit perfect, but that he doesn't stand behind his work.

If I wanted to settle for fit I'd have bought off the fucking peg.

Re: Custom Leather Suit Mfgs?

I just had a suit made by Z. Very good service and a great looking suit! If you get measured for a suit then send the measurments to him make sure to wear your choice of back protector when you get measured. it can add up to 4" to just your waist. I got the new racers suit and paid 1400.00.

I chose Z as well. I've heard nothing but great things about them.

Now that would be cool. And a little lantern pictogram on the chest.

What symbol could possibly strike fear into the hearts of bad guys more than a... um... lantern. Yeah.

A couple of weeks ago. Yeah, I'll have to post up the requisite squid poses once I get it (but probably not with sheep directly in front of me ).

Nah, no plans to switch to a Kawi anytime soon (or to look like some frog-like superhero!).

Re: Custom Leather Suit Mfgs?

I have a Vanson street suit custom for my PC Gaming body. Great people, and just an awesome suit. Of course, I'm only 1.5 hours from the factory, too.

Re: Custom Leather Suit Mfgs?

Okay, after a metric-shit-ton of research (thanks to all of you for your thoughts on suit mfgs), vacillation, hymning & hawing, on-again-off-again I finally just bit the damn bullet and ordered a custom suit. I was about to pull the trigger on a Vanson custom, until I spoke with Freddie Spencer's office manager, Gregg. Apparantly, they just switched to Kushitani, and the power of marketing worked on me.

I ordered a Kushitani K-0045xx 'Accelerate Suit'. They don't sell this version under the US catalog, but I liked the features and design. Not to mention, I have as much artistic ability as a retarded gorilla, so I went with their color scheme here (red, white, blue and black).

I got extremely broke off. Like, extremely. So much so, I'm too embarrassed to post the cost. In any event, I figure its an investment to protect my rather large ass (wait, that didn't sound right). Two to three months turn around time from the factory in Japan. I also had them do a few things to it in addition to custom fitting;

- Duel zipper (hey, we all can't be built like Pedrosa)
- Extra perforations (yes, it gets hot in Southern Nevada most of the track season)
- a water bladder in the hump for when I get thursty-wike-a widdle-baby (yeah, yeah, laugh all you want it's damn HOT here in Southern Nevada if I didn't mention that before)
- my last name across the back.

So, that's it. Hopefully I'll have it by my first '08 track day in mid February. I'll let you know what I think of it once it arrives, and how it feels on the track, etc.
