Marsee Corona Tankbag (on a BMW GS eventually)

Oxtar Air Tech XCR Motorcycle Touring Boots :: New Enough Motorcycle Apparel

Just received it, solid bag as usual and looks like it might FIT on my bike - unlike lots else I tried.

The whole magic here is the corona mounting system:
Rex Marsee Designs, Inc.

It employs a few strategically placed magnets along with a semi-friction tank ring. We shall see some pics when I put it on in the next week or 19.

Oh uh, weird broken link...I do like these boots though, got them with the tankbag as mentioned in another thread.

But since both really ARE worth mentioning...here is the link for the Corona tankbag I actually bought:

Well both have about 3000 more miles on them than they did in March, which is about 7000 more than I would care to admit

The Bag is still in good shape and I'm pretty pleased. In hindsight I wished I had gone with something a little bigger and more pockety. Thats not the bags fault though, it's mine

Aside from using it offroad and getting it nasty, letting unused RAM mounts bounce around in the nice shiny clear top part and mar it up, and putting stuff inside the inner mesh pockets that are way too heavy for them -I dig it

I love the easy on/off action and despite some folks that have had issues with the magnetic system I haven't had any.

Positives:
- it's small and easy to tote anywhere.
- the cord pass-throughs are priceless, and even without the water cover it does pretty well in wet weather.
- solid marsee quality, non-binding zippers, double stiching, etc.
- no idea what it's rated for, but this thing packed to the gills with cameras, gps batteries, etc. has gone down many trails and roads and not even come close to moving or coming off. That Corona mount deal is pretty solid.

Negatives:
- wish there was a system to restrain things in the upper section of EVA material. That clear window is nice, but it's easy for stuff to pile up and bounce around with spirited riding.
- the inner mesh pockets could use a better material or less tense elastics. I put a leatherman in one of mine and it ended up destroying the pocket pretty much after a couple hundred miles of bouncing.
- I really wish the 'corona' piece had a way of being electrified directly, so it's truly a 'twist and shout' experience.
- The 'corona' mount plate in the bottom of the bag is just a big hunk of bumpy plastic, why couldn't you at least mold it flat and cover it with material so the bottom is flat?

Wish list:
- I wish it expanded, sometimes...most times I should be glad it doesent.
- I wish it had at least 1 side 'bungee type' system for quickly stowing a glove or two.
- I wish the corona system in general would have a electrification option that did not involve a pigtail into the tankbag, but rather direct contacts.

Would I buy it again if looking for this size bag? yes, without question.
Would I buy Marsee again? yes, absolutely - great quality.
Then why are you shopping for a tankbag, geek? - because I want the 'electric horseshoe' that bags connection offers

I'm looking at the Marsee. I'm not sure that it will work on the Adv though. Once mounted, won't it interfere with the crossbar?

I don't have a crossbar, those things are a pain in the ass.

But yeah come to think of it, it would probably hit the bar - it hits my bars (barely) at full lock. Sorry, didn't think of that

You need a Sargent more anyways

Yep...coming to that conclusion. I rode 312 miles on Saturday. Everything was comfy except for the inside of my legs from sliding forward toward the tank.

I was hoping to order one for VT in October, but I'm hearing they have an 8wk back-up.

Regardless, I'm still amazed that I got off the bike and felt like I could easily keep going.

Yep, it's true too

Mine is still available btw, and I won't take 8 weeks to ship it

While the Marsee bags are expensive, they are cheaper than some of the more common options out there

I bought my BMW tankbag used and it was 150$. I thought I got too impulsive, till I found out it was 340$ for the thing about 6 months earlier. Nevermind the bags connection tankbags...I had one of those for a few but it didn't fit on the GS as it claimed to, and for the 250$ I was into it for, that just wasn't cool. I've had Marsee's since day 1 and they make some darn good tankbags imo.

If only I could attach some steel plating behind the plastic and just use a mag bag I'd be happy

I swear, that Beemer bag is the Louis Vuitton of the tankbag world. I wish my magnetic Marsee would work too.

Oh yeah, what crossbar?

Still thinking about it, although I really want the matched front and rear.

I love my crossbar and black pad with the BMW print. It reminds me of riding BMX when I was a kid!

Thats what they all say. 8 weeks from now is November, if your ride is in October that poses a problem

I am only referring to the handlebar crossbar, to be clear

I like the beemer tankbag though, it looks a little weird but you can fit a small human or a weekends worth of clothes in it. I would really like one of the 'slim' versions they make now I think.

I've had tankbags on sportbikes over the years, and always thought a rear bag would be better. With the stay mounted GPS I also have no need for a spot for a map now, and being tankbag-less is as good in practice as it sounds.

With the rear top case, I don't see myself buying one unless we're loading up for a long tour and run out of space, which is another for this bike.

I know...

Truth is, I don't really want a tank bag. I've never liked them very much. I'm trying to find a way to hold my VIO camera where it's in view and the Marsee seemed like a decent option.

I've seen the Ram Ball mounts, but so far I haven't seen a holder for the camera itself.

Amen. I have my (Vario) rear topcase with the rear luggage rack removed and the passenger seat relocation kit in place, so the case snaps in (and locks differently) where the passenger seat is. Now I have a backrest, and the bike handles better without that weird boxy thing hanging out back. I love it.

The little Marsee has become seldom used in these parts actually (due to commuting mode).
For that I have a system now with a laptop case that carries all the work credentials and electronica and fits in the Vario. My personal cell, motorcycle wallet, house keys, garage door opener fill the 4 jacket pockets (minimally so no bulk) and the nano 8g in the inside cell pocket.

It's a system I've been working on for awhile but it's to the point now where I get to work, get off the bike and I'm converted into office mode by time I reach the ground floor doors.

The Marsee is nice, but it was like I had a purse

Have you seen the vibration proof camera mount that bags connection offers?

check www.twistedthrottle.com

Does the VIO have a 1/4" standard tapped hole in the bottom of it? If so, just get a ram 4 hole plate and tap the middle with a 1/4-20 stainless screw. Put a bathroom applique on the surface to prevent it from un-rotating itself around.

Interesting, but a little big, and the VIO doesn't need the vibration-proof hook up. Thanks for the link though, tons of cool stuff on the site!

I'm actually looking for the the mount on the pic posted if anyone has ideas.

That mount is a generic ram one it looks like for the brick style cellphone, with a clip from a set of held gloves glued to the left side, and a vel-strap around the bottom.

I can't find the link to what I'm speaking of, but it's similar to this:
RAM Mount System

A 'generic style' holder for a handheld GPS looks like it might work too.

Have you checked the ATV aisle at your local Walmart yet? Look for an portable electronics holder, should be in a red bubble pack with an olive drab adjustable rubbery mount like the one in the pic you have.

But I'm going to have to move this all to the thread for the VIO mount you're going to start once it's created since it's got nothnig to do with my tankbag

Thanks for the input...I'll check wmart.

As for the thread-jack, the Marsee bag was the first tank bag I saw that actually interested me. Too bad it won't work with my crossbar.
