Canon 1D Mark III pro D-SLR and (3) Canon L-series lenses

UPDATE: Everything has been SOLD as of 12/19/08. Thanks for the interest!

SOLD: EF 70-200 2.8 L - $800/BO
This lens is a real workhorse, usable for everything from portraits and weddings to sports and action, and everything in between. This also is not an IS lens. I purchased this lens new in fall of 2002. The optics are in excellent condition, with the front element and filter ring just having been replaced this summer. The exterior is probably a 9; there is virtually no visible wear or paint chipping/damage on the lens itself (only small minor chips on the lens collar near the tripod mount). Also included: OEM lens hood, back cap, the absolutely pristine original Canon soft lens case, and the original box (minus the UPC code).

SOLD: Canon EOS 1D Mark III
I (had) a Canon 1D Mark III for sale or trade. With 72,708 actuations (shutter rating is 300,000 actuations) this is not particularly a "low mileage camera". I purchased the camera new in August 2007. However, the camera is in very good condition indeed, with only a minor scuff near the main dial.

The sub-mirror assembly has been replaced. I personally took the camera to Canon's service center in Jamesburg (NJ) this summer for a clean & check and replacement of the sub-mirror assembly. I find the autofocus to be excellent. although I had no focus issues prior to the "fix".

UPDATE: I took the camera to Canon's Service Center again on 12/11/08 for a sensor cleaning. It was cleaned and checked and determined to be in excellent working condition.

I have and will include the original box, packing, body cap, strap, and charger. I believe I also have the manual and the software, but couldn't locate them where I thought they'd been stored. (I'll update this post to confirm that they've been located and will be included.)

I will also include TWO extra batteries (three total) for the camera. One of the extra batteries has literally never been used; it has been in the box since day one. The camera also includes the remote terminal cover and the adapter ring, plus the battery door cap.

The original purchase price of this camera was $4200!

The price for an outright sale would be $2700. This price takes into consideration the above average use. Most 1DM3's seem to be selling between $2900 and $3100, and in fact, I've never seen a 1DM3 at a price this low. I will cover shipping and will ask the buyer to cover PayPal fees, unless we can arrange a face-to-face transaction, which would be ideal for several reasons.

I would also consider negotiating a trade for a Nikon D3 or D700, but not other models. (If you're curious, I have one D3 now and am in the process of making a move to Nikon - at least for a while.)

Also for sale:

SOLD: EF 400 2.8 L - $3500
This is the cream of the crop for action photography. This example does not have Canon's Image Stabilization feature (aka "IS"). I purchased this lens used in spring of 2006. The optics are in excellent condition, and the exterior is probably a 7; there is typical wear and some minor paint chipping and such. The lens works flawlessly and is tack-sharp. Also included: Canon Lens Trunk, lens hood, and soft (leather) lens cap.

SOLD: EF 17-40 4.0 L - $475
This lens is a great alternative to the high-priced 16-35 2.8 lens, and has a better zoom range to boot. The lens is in very good condition. Also included: Canon lens hood, front and back caps, and the original manaul and box.

I will post photos of each of the lenses in short order. Photos of the camera will follow (see my next post in this thread).

Note:
Impress your friends and neighbors! Be the envy of the sidelines at Pop Warner games (or high school, and all the way up to the pros). Yes, this is professional equipment. Of course, you don't have to be a pro to purchase (or use) it, just as you don't have to be able to his the side of a barn to buy a gun, or know how to play Moonlight Sonata to buy a piano. If you DO buy it, you will find yourself equipped with some seriously high-quality imaging equipment. I have used this gear (and a few of Canon's earlier pro D-SLR bodies before the 1DM3) to earn a very nice 'side income' via event photography, primarily motorsports. This is the same camera that pro sports photographers around the world use; there is nothing better in Canon's lineup, and many argue the 1D Mark III is the best fast-action camera available, period.

For those who are able to do face-to-face transactions, I am located in Middletown, Delaware, and I would be willing to travel along the eastern corridor anywhere between NYC and DC to complete a transaction.

Feel free to PM me or post here with questions.

Bwhip should buy this for when he is a retired racer turned Photographer.

Upgrading?

Is this one of the ones you guys used to make my pics turn out so much faster than they were? It'd be worth the cash alone for that option.

That's a fantastic deal on that body, you should have no problem selling it.

Whipper did one better and got himself a brandy-new 1D Mark III (same camera). It really is a fantastic sports/photojournalism body...and it's not bad for any other kind of photography, either. Well, maybe with the exception of spy/covert/discreet shooting. This is a big, pro DSLR body - nothing discreet about it.

I don't know if I'm really "upgrading", but rather shifting brands. I've already got a Nikon D3, which is a very similar camera, which happens to be a little better suited to wedding and non-action photography. I'll need to replace my long telephoto and zoom lenses to complete the switch, but I'm working on that. Need to sell this stuff first.

That's a heck of a great price for the body. If I didn't already have one, I'd definitely want to jump on it! I can't imagine a better camera for action shots (or puppy shots).

I just got into digital photography (moved from film SLR's). I bought a 30D to get my feet wet. I'm now looking at the prime 400 5.6. I wish I could plunk down the coin on your "L" 400mm.....

Good luck on your sale!

finally got smart and converting to a Nikkor system I see.

EDIT: I bought a Canon Digital body from Taz a few years back and everything was exactly how he had described. NO surprises or regrets... My dad has the body now.

In all seriousness, until the D3 was announced (and now the D700), Nikon had no DSLR's that were worth the price of admission, to me. A camera with a 1.5x sensor just isn't what I need. Kudos to Nikon for only taking about ten years to get its head out of its proverbial ass and bring to market a full-frame DSLR.

That said, I do like the D3. And I'm contemplating either a second one, or a D700. I have no interest in the D3x at this time; I'll wait another generation before going the ultra-high megapixel route.

Thanks for the public feedback. That (Canon D60) was my first DSLR, one of the main pieces of gear I bought after selling my R1 to launch my event photography business, and a camera I'll always remember fondly (for what it represented, more so than what its actual capabilities were). I hope your Dad is enjoying it. Say, if he ever wants to sell it back to its original owner for a song, let me know! I have a nice little spot on my bookshelf to display it, right next to my old ('92) Canon EOS A2E.

Unless I die between now and the end of June, I think you can expect to see me back. I'm guessing NH feels just about the same.

And if gas prices stay on the right side of $3, the big blue photo trailer will be back, too, so we'll be able to make 12x18's and have multiple viewing stations and stuff.

Pics of the Canon 400/2.8 lens... (UPDATE: This lens has been sold!)

It's ugly on the outside, but so sweet on the inside (where it counts):

These are going for $4500 and up in "excellent" condition. This one, classified as "very good" per Adorama's rating system, has all the performance and optical quality for a lot less money.

Only if there's some wide-eyed kid there who you manage to con into thinking you know how to ride.

Just kidding...

Hey - if nothing else, you can sign something for us photographers. Like a credit card slip, maybe.

EXACTLY. you have hit the nail on the head, and if I remember correctly I signed 2 autographs that year... (the defining moment in my life to date)

Now worries about your autographs either, I'll be picking something up as long as you guys continue to make me looks as good as you have in the past

Sure; I still have the 70-200.
And in fact, I took it to Canon last week to have a 'clean and check' and focus ring adjustment. I should have it back within a few days (I hope).
I'll post some photos of it tonight.

Oh...I also have a Canon EF 1.4x teleconverter that works great with this lens (effectively making it a 98-280/4.0). The TC would be $265 new. I'd sell mine for $150, or $100 if bundled with the 70-200 lens.
